I stopped at my local parts yard yesterday and took the kids along, I figure that exposing them to this kind of stuff will spark their interest in it later.

Where is this yard at? Looks like the type of yard I need. Also saw in last picture a Oliver grain drill that in the last week several were looking for parts for.

Didja ever notice something about young boys? They always walk thrru any rain puddles, no matter how big, or deep! We had a school bus stop in front of our home, and every time there was a puddle of rain there--the boys would walk thru it, but, the girls walked around it!
Strange behavior? Dare-devil stuff? Maybe hoping the puddle would be 5 foot deep, and they"d get soaked, and have to be rescued, or taken home for the day? Or, just showing off for the girls?
Vis the boys in the pictures: How wet can ya get?

Thanks for the memories.

When I was about your kids age there was a yard 20 miles away. Was run by a Latter Day Saint. not open on Saturday but open for business on Sundays.

One of my favorite Sunday afternoon outings with my dad was to go to the junkyard.

Once again thanks for the memories. If I am any indication your kids will remember this for years to come.

Don't have places like that left any more, price of scrap is too high. And my state frowns upon such 'ugly' places, need to build a fence so nothing can be seen from the road.

So very little of that left.

The towns like to have it look nice so it will have a higher valuation, Thus higher taxes.

farmerjohn,
great pictures of the kids,

but just a heads up:

i cringed when i saw that kid inside the old barrel.

i retired as chemical and environmental officer at our plant.
You cannot believe how some folks dispense of old chemical barrels and the methanol ethanol bad crap that is in them.

I would not want my kids crawling around in those old barrels.

This is the parts yard, the usable implements are across the road, so it's probably got problems.

Rusty;

Not just kids. I walk through most puddles too. Good way to check boots for leaks.
