hey guys, just picked up an Oliver 1850 and later on down the road this year after I get done with my spring time work am looking to repaint it. 2 Questions for those of you who remember these tractors as they were new in dealerships: 1st the side placards that say OLIVER 1850 where these painted on or decals as I see them sold in decal sets yet originals appear to be faded out paint and not remnants of a decal? 2nd Question is do any of you have any old pix you could post of the original Ollies? looking for some reference as to just what and what not was painted as I recall once seeing an old sales brochure for one and to my surprise all filters, starter, and radiator hoses were green just like when someone dont take time for prep work when they repaint a 4020 JD. Thanks |

This is the best I can do with a closeup. Everything was green, yes. As far as a bad restoration on a Deere,I bought a new 4040 in 81 and everything was green on that too, even the filters.
Can't tell you on the decals,as far as I know they were decals originally. Dumont makes excellent replacement decals for the 1850s.

Here is our original Oliver 1850. I had only had it for a few years but I came from the original owner and has not never been re-painted. Hope it helps.

Some of the hardware was not painted, like the lug bolts for the front wheels and rear wheels into the hubs. Also the clamps and hardware for mounting the rear rims. The knurled knobs and pan head screws with star washers holding the side panels on. The top of the air per-screener was not painted and of course the bowl was clear. The air filter indicator on the air inlet pipe. The rear rims were most all white except for the spin outs, which were silver. Good luck with it! |
