My 862 is running ok so far but I'm thinking sooner or later I will have to do an engine change. Need to know what brand of tractors used a twin cyl. that will interchange (like a magnum 18 or a 17 series II) I hopeing to find a parts tractor rather than buy a new engine.Did wheelhorse use these? I'd like a pressure lubed system W/filter

d swanny:

You want to watch for the "specifics" surrounding the Kohler engines built for Cub Cadet.

One of the big things, is the PTO end (crankshaft end). There are several different sizes and lengths. This is a factor in installing and properly running the Elec PTO.

My Wheel Horse has an Onan, not a bad engine but I'd stay away from putting an Onan where there hasn't been one, to quote a British phrase "Spare bits are dear". Watch E-Bay and you should be able to score a Kohler (check carefully) or a Honda that could be made to work. As others have eluded check out the business end of the engine (crank diameter and centerline height) to figure out how much back yard engineering you'll have to do.

I've got a kt 17 series II sitting in my shop. I took it out of a 782. It's been sitting there right at a year. ran fine when i took it out except it used oil. probably needs an overhaul. near new starter and fuel pump. I think it has pressure lube but does not have an oil filter (never did) but i understand it can be equipped with one. I'm located in Kansas.
