MF-50 Diesel - kill switch "return spring?"

It turns out that mine looks like Bob's picture, except that the "springy thing" is broken. I had always wondered why there was a stiff wire around the pull knob. Seeing Bob's picture explains it all. Thanks.

MF-50 Diesel Air filter - somethings missing

Yes, that's what it looks like, except mine is under the hood with air intake through the front. And, yes, the mechanic did use the universal steel mesh. Getting your endorsement makes me feel better for what he did. Coyote

MF-50 Diesel - kill switch "return spring?"

Jim, Yes, it's the same tractor. Based on what you found in the manual, I guess my Papa added a spring on it that the recent mechanic removed - Since I've owned it, the rod would return on its own. And yes, sometimes I'd let go too early, but we only shut it down at a stand still. But, I see...

MF-50 Diesel Air filter - somethings missing

Thanks for all of that! I never looked down the air-intake as Papa had it covered with a homemade nest of window screen. Those ol' timers did with what they had. Anyway, the mechanic showed me a wad of decomposed metal mesh that he pulled out of the intake pipe. It was so broken down that air...

MF-50 Diesel: help sourcing fuel line to injection pump

Thanks, PTFarmer. I did that with the line to the air preheater. I'll take it in to my local fabricator, but I'm very appreciative that you included the schematic. Coyote

MF-50 Diesel Air filter - somethings missing

The mechanic that rebuilt my grandpa's MF-50 for me said that the air filter was missing. He said that he couldn't get one so made one out of material that he said was intended for the purpose. However, I found these after reading some posts here: An inner filter...

MF-50 Diesel - kill switch "return spring?"

After being pulled out (to kill the engine), the kill switch does not return on its own as it is supposed to. I found this out after nearly ruining my starter trying to get it to crank only to find that the kill switch was in the pulled-out position. How frustrating! How do I fix this and with...

MF-50 Diesel: help sourcing fuel line to injection pump

I need to replace the fuel line that goes from the filters on the Right side of the tractor to the injection pump on the Left side of the tractor. It doesn't show up on YT's sales list; does anyone know the part number, a source, or a description to take to my local fabricator? Thanks, Coyote

Massey Ferguson 50 Gage wiring schematics

I'm in need of a schematic for the MF50 deisel. Wires are in bad shape and the keyed starter has been replaced with a pushbutton start as well as a pushbutton heat switch. The ammeter has a wire connector on one post, but the wire has been torn/cut off. Generator tested good and has been...

    MF50 adjusting brakes

I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone for the tips. I suppose that the new brakes need time to wear it, and hopefully the chittering (humming) will stop. I don't drive mine as a hobby farmer, the brakes probably don't get worked much. Thanks, everyone

    MF50 adjusting brakes

Thanks for any help or suggestions, beforehand. I have my grandfather's '63 MF50 (diesel). It was last in the shop for new rear axle seals and new brakes. When I got it back, either or both sides would hum (i.e. produce a vibration) after the use of the brakes. The vibration would continue for...

Lights wiring - MF 50 Diesel

I inherited my grandfather's '63 MF 50. It has no lights and no wiring for lights. I went to the Argo website and found partial wiring diagrams, but they don't show where the power comes in from or where the switch is. Papa had wired in a pushbutton start switch since the key-switch doesn't...

MF 50 Freeze plug heater/ Perkins engine

I need to purchase and install a freeze plug heater on the ol' Perkins. I understand that there is a specific plug location where it needs to be installed. Anyone know which one and a source for the heater?

    MF 50 Front hub troubles

Thanks for the suggestion, PTFarmer. Fortunately, I spoke with a very helpful customer service Expert and mentioned the seal # that I needed. Since the diagram their website showed the seal I needed and the bearings were the same, he set me up with what I needed. The saga continues in...

    MF 50 Front hub troubles

When the bearings blew out on one hub, I decided to replace them on both sides at the same time. Come to find out, the hubs on this '63 tractor are different. I over looked the first give away (one hub is red and the other's grey) when I started. The second give away is the hang up. The seal...
