    John Deere 43 corn sheller

Thanks for the tips, now to find a puller big enough to get the fan off the shaft. . I also just noticed some cracks in the cylinder housing near where the cobs will exit to the stacker so I might be getting in deep.

    Leaking PTO control valve

Thanks for the info. I discovered that the lock and square nuts were threaded all the way down. What pressure is this setting for and how can I now set it accurately and correctly? I never had any problems with pto operation 🤷🏼‍♂️

international 656 hydro deceleration valve question

My expertise is limited only to my experience with my hydro so take it for what it’s worth. It sounds like yours is operating exactly like mine. When pulling back, it’s closing a valve so it will be an immediate response. I use the inch pedal like a clutch when I want to be more in control of...

656 Gas Hydro Blown Head Gasket and Holy Valve

Done! First start tonight went well, no leaks. Coppercoat, reworking the head again, and giving some time between torquing 65 and 90 as suggested were all implemented. I did put enough water in the fill the block and head before starting tonight. I’ll put the fan assembly back together and top...

656 Gas Hydro Blown Head Gasket and Holy Valve

Thanks for all the info. The way the gasket fit really threw me for a loop too but it is like the one that came off and only fits one way.

656 Gas Hydro Blown Head Gasket and Holy Valve

Thanks. A mechanic friend suggested it and after combing the web today for gasket leaks like this on new builds, I read often that guys are popping it off dry for the first retorque. It sounds crazy to me too but the machinist came out today for an inspection and he can’t see anything wrong in...

656 Gas Hydro Blown Head Gasket and Holy Valve

This gasket is copper on top, metal bottom, with a membrane in between. It only fits one direction for oil passage openings. Is that what you mean by a sandwich? Machinist stopped by today and rechecked everything and all appeared well. When installed, I had torqued 30-60-90 all to book...

1/2 the people say run it dry for 30 seconds, the other half warn of things like you do.

656 Gas Hydro Blown Head Gasket and Holy Valve

I went for the total rebuild. Had a guy check the block and short block the bottom end and machined the head back to flat. Now for the trouble…. I assembled it all, went to fire it up, and the head gasket leaked coolant all the way around! So now I’m back where I started. Any tips for this head...

    Block Heater Elimination 656

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve heard some horror stories about the block heaters burning down the shed overnight so I thought I’d throw it out to the group. The one that was on the machine quit just prior to needing the rebuild.

    Block Heater Elimination 656

Thanks for the response. With the fresh overhaul, I’m not planning to use much starting fluid and this one is usually in the shed for winter. The battery stays on a tender and the starter was newly rebuilt last year, but point taken.

    Block Heater Elimination 656

Hey folks… I’m wrapping up the overhaul. I’m not putting the block heater back on. Do I need that bypass hose in place or can I plug the hole in the side of the block and just drop my temp probe in the head? The head just had threaded pipe as a “T” fitting that I would do away with from what I...

656 Gas Hydro Blown Head Gasket and Holy Valve

I can access most tools and I have someone that can help if I really get myself into trouble. Engine experience is somewhat extensive on two stroke toys and motorcycle repair but I left most of that in my youth 25 years ago. Now I’m playing farmer and ridiculously ready to dive into yet another...
