Starter just spins....no engagement 1950 8n Front mount

You might try a bendable rod with magnet attached and curve the end section to match the curvature of the flywheel so as to slip it under the ring gear. If your magnet is on wire it is going to want to keep sticking to the flywheel when you're trying to push it downward. If it's rigid you can...

    exhaust question

Fields of plants loved being cultivated with propane powered tractors especially if they had underbelly exhaust because the products of combustion bathing the plants, were Carbon dioxide and water vapor. Minneapolis Moline is notable for having sold a lot of propane powered tractors.

    exhaust question

Even if he buys a new one he still has the labor of removing the manifold, so the only expense would be a brazing rod or two and a bit of Oxy/acetylene. But if he doesn't have his own welding equip or a welder friend, then I agree, buy a new one.

    exhaust question

Next time mount the header pipe and exhaust pipe properly, to relieve stress at the header flange. And don't have the tailpipe sticking out so far that it increases the possibility of jamming it into something.

    exhaust question

If you were my neighbor and still have the broken off piece, I'd braze it back on with Oxy/acet after deeply V-grooving the breakage line. P.S. I'd take the manifold off so as to be able to do the repair horizontally.

Tank pinhole leaked gas all over...now won't start

I sometimes for a laugh when ordering coffee ask the server what that coffee is called that's very strong. When she answers EXpresso, I ask her to spell it. The look on her face can be priceless when she stumbles realizing that there is no X in ESPRESSO. :sneaky: Stab in the face is kind of...

I think what they've done is confuse the beginning of 'etcetera' with word 'eccentric.' but you've got me confused with "off from" or 'off of" Can you give a couple of sentences to illustrate ? T

It seems like one of those somebody's-got-to-do-it, because even their teachers can't be correcting all the dumbing-down. If they were you wouldn't see dopey grammar like: "YOUR welcome" The millennials don't even now what a contraction is anymore, so now they have actually nullified what a...

You'll solve everything quicker in the future if you realize that Wahlah is not a word. :) It's a word of French origin and is spelled V o i l à . Starts with a V and is pronounced "Vwa lah means: "there it is" or "there you are" Sorry but it pains me to hear or see "Wahlah"...

    Oil selection

Glad you could use my condensed explanation. I kind of fell into using 15W40 because I started with Gulf "Hydro treated" conventional 15W40 oil that was great but then got into selling Amsoil. The only 15W40 Amsoil had in the late 70's was called "Marine diesel 15W40" so I started using it in...

Ford 2N Generator pulley not spinning freely

I've nursed periodically noisy generator bearings with an oil can over the years. My '51 Chev 6 generator has a flip-top oil point at the rear bushing but you can also get a rotating generator to pull a few drops in from the front to the bearing. When I need a super light oil, that also...

    Oil selection

I use 15W40 Amsoil synthetic Diesel oil in my 1951 Chev and my Jubilee. Another additive that oils designated "diesel" have is more base chemical to neutralize sulfuric acid that forms after the Sulfur in diesel fuel becomes SO2 during combustion. S02 is hungry for oxygen and so it becomes SO3...

Tank pinhole leaked gas all over...now won't start

Oh sorry. . . just saw your question. I meant ethanol which can have a swelling effect on certain old rubbers. I only used gas with ethanol one time and my fuel shutoff valve became extremely hard to turn. So I replaced the sediment bowl and valve with a new one I got from YT and have had on...

An important tip for you that i know works. When I was restoring a very old rusty tank and thinking that there must be a patch that works and stays on. I wound up on a 3M website and they said this in answer to the question of Bondo working as a stay-on patch: YES, Bondo will work for gas tank...

    Inexpensive 2N clutch pedal

That was my first thought as well. I had a left hip replaced too in 2013 and for a while it was clutch-sensitive. But drilling and bolting or welding a rod to the pedal and having the rod swept up to the drivers left by the seat would be perfect. At any point you could just heat it red and...

    Chevy 216 and 235

I drive a 3/4 ton '51 aluminum chev van that I put a late '53 235 engine into. It still has 48 psi oil pressure even though i rebuilt it in 1975 so i'm happy about that. I rebored it so it's actually 240.8 cu in now. Anyway . . . I need to replace one of the rocker arms that is clacking...

    Dirt scoop and snow

when trying my rear blade I discovered that because i let the snow build up , it was too easy for a soft icy layer at the bottom and so I realized i needed chains. But I've been eyeing my unique dirt bucket out front (only because it is a wide one) and wondering, because I could get traction...

    Tire Chains

Daniel, I accidentally deleted my response cause it looked like it was to be included in my reply to Lynn so here's take 2. You're in Haliburton! I was born in Kirkland Lake and after Sault Ste Marie and two winters in Toronto, I moved out west for good. Thanks for the good advice; hadn't...

    Tire Chains

Hi Lynn, I guess the freight would be an arm and a leg cause I'm on Salt spring Island. (?) It's the largest in the West coast group of islands called, The Gulf islands (20 miles long) out from Vancouver, B.C. It's like a sister group to the group across the border called, The san Juan...
