    Best Logging Log Cut Lengths

Wow… A lot of negativity on skidding the logs out of the woods (but interestingly that is how the commercial loggers did it here, and absolutely no positive alternatives offered). Guess I’ll just ask the guy with the portable sawmill, and give up on getting alternative opinions here. Thanks.

    Best Logging Log Cut Lengths

Folks - Looking to pull some downed nice logs out of the woods. Mostly white pine, cherry and smooth bark hickory. Winter storm blew them over including the root ball. Thinking to cut the larger straight parts out, and drag them out of the woods for a mobile saw mill. Any suggestions on the...

Anybody have a new GM P/U or Surburban?

Interestingly, based on our experience with a 1st gen Volt, it has never acted as you state (though I know the book says it can). It always seems to run electrically, even when the engine is on. I have never seen it mechanically connect the engine crank to the tires. Unless the status screen is...

    Kinda like a Chevy Volt?

Anybody have a new GM P/U or Surburban?

Ok… I stand corrected… Ford does offer a 10 speed in their SD trucks. At this point though, I’m unconvinced that it is the same 10 speed that is in the 1/2 ton and Expedition.

Anybody have a new GM P/U or Surburban?

We have had a ‘18 Ford Expedition and a ‘23 Chevy Suburban. Both have the 10 speed. IIRC, they are essentially the identical tranny, with only the shift control logic being developed by each manufacturer. And that is where I’ve seen the biggest difference. The Ford shift control logic...

Sounds like a nice machine! Does it have dual remotes in addition to the circuits to run the loader? Get some photos!

Alternative headlight locations for an 861 w/ FEL

Assuming you have converted to 12v neg ground? Given how cheap lights have gotten, and if you really need lights, I’m a fan of multiple locations. Like you’ll see on new tractors today. A few on the fenders, and a few up front.

    Pole shed tips

Oh no! You are going to get a lot of opinions. Much of the “best answers” will come from local folks that have built recently. A few (perhaps unsolicited) comments on pole barns (again, opinions will vary)—- 1. If you can, go 14’ or even 16’ eves. Height is usually cheap, and opens up a...

    1972 Ford tractor.Value??

I’m generally with dabees… However, bad tire condition take off $1000. Bad condition sheet metal/grill etc will take off an easy $1000. Poor running/smoke will also take off $1000 And of course, if you have some hobby farmers around you, that will help get it actually sold. Any photos?

    What do I have? 640, 641, or a 841?

Agree with John. It seems to be an 841. Assuming it has a 4 speed transmission, and a single stage clutch? Have often seen the wrong front emblem and/or sheet metal, and/or stickers on a tractor. What really matters is the engine/transmission/rear end S/Ns and casting codes.

    Ford 2000 running terrible

If you make it excessively rich, by spraying gas into the carb as it’s running, does it still do the same?

What type of anvil do I have?

Ok… Not an anvil expert. Very interesting tool. But to me that looks more like a fixture to help with the formation of certain round items. Perhaps one could call it an anvil for a specific set of tasks.

Any chance the tip (of the switch) is broken off? The switch in the drawings looks to have a longer tip.

    860 fires but won't start

My go-to test for this condition is to remove the pipe/hose that goes from the air cleaner to the carburetor, the spray (use an old spray bottle) some gasoline directly into the carburetor. Immediately, try to start. Does it fire? If it does, you have a fuel supply issue. If it does not fire...

    860 fires but won't start

Have you tried spraying fuel into the carb intake? Just remove the tube to the air cleaner, and use an old spray bottle to spray in some fuel. What happens?

    Tw-5 series 2 hydraulic console

OK... You got my curiosity going... Are you sure that is not just a 12v power port? I couldn't find any drawing for a TW-5, but I found one for a 8530... And there is a power port right there.
