    scrap or restore?

I would also chime in and mention that whether you restore it or not, don't consider scrapping it. On the one hand you will make vastly more profit by parting it out, and on the other if you scrap it you're destroying quite a number of likely usable parts that haven't been produced in many...

    JD A Questions

Howdy folks, two simple, unrelated questions for other A owners out there. First, from an operator standpoint, how do you know what RPM to set the engine at when using the PTO? I'm used to running a tractor with a tachometer and want to make sure I don't overspeed the implement. Any advice...

    Can't get it to start

Apologies in advance for replying to a very old post but I was looking back and saw that I never posted a resolution to this. Long story short, I was never able to fix the carburetor and to this day have not figured out why it was behaving the way it was. The problem is that gas is somehow...

What makes a diesel engine continue to run ( dieseling) after being shut off.

Jerry, A couple of things you need to think through before you decide to just keep 'running it as is'... If, as some have suggested, you are burning oil and that's what is allowing it to continue to run, you need to address that issue before you start having more issues. Does the tractor use...

I need a part that JD says is obsolete and I can't find it anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not sure if they will do this, but if you pester the parts people or the manager of your local dealer enough, there is a process for obsolete parts where you can request the engineering drawings from Deere and have the part manufactured by a local machine shop. It's still entirely up to...

Case 930 Wants To Start, But Won't?

A load test is a for-sure answer, but I'm assuming he doesn't have a load tester. IF its a bad battery then it must be really bad for it to not only click at the starter but also kill all power, which WOULD be visible using a volt meter. I've used this test personally before on several...

Case 930 Wants To Start, But Won't?

Not a Case guy, but thought I might give my .02 cents since I haven't seen anyone suggest this yet (unless I can't read and missed it) Have you tried connecting a volt meter to the battery while attempting cranking to monitor the voltage? Your description of the problem, particularly that you...

John Deere 1010 valvetrain oiling issue

A couple things to try: 1. Since its sat for so long there could be sludge or debris in the oil system impeding flow to the top of the engine. I would do an engine oil flush. There are lots of commercial products available at any auto parts stores that will have their own usage instructions...

John Deere 1010 valvetrain oiling issue

Well I hate to jump to conclusions, but a silvery coating in the valve train is typically not a good sign....but let's start with the basics. What weight oil are you using? When was the last oil change? Did you replace oil AND filter and what brand filter? How are you verifying oil pressure...

John Deere 2010 - Running hot, now won't stay running

Rich, I'm not super familiar with the 2010 tractor but I've worked on the engine that's in that machine itself and figured I'd post a reply since no one else had. As far as the not starting I would suspect that you've got a clog in the fuel line, filter, carburetor, or tank that is restricting...

    John Deere 1010 throttle controls

Remove the steering wheel and then you can remove the throttle lever base. Mine had a bunch of rust and dirt in it so I sanded it smooth and then put wheel bearing grease between the mating surfaces. Helps a lot.

    John Deere 1010 throttle controls

Looks to me like you're missing part of the linkage and the hand throttle lever. You're missing parts 18, 30, 63, and 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 from the parts diagram. Here's the link: https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/59702/referrer/navigation/pgId/152603 Looks like you...

    John Deere 1010 governor problem

No, the issue is not with the carburetor to governor rod. It is not your governor either. You have something going on with the aftermarket throttle itself or your throttle cable from the governor to the throttle. At the 3 second mark in the video of the tractor running, you can see the...

    John Deere 1010 governor problem

Thank you for all the pictures and videos. As wore out said, the issue is with your "aftermarket" throttle setup. The governor appears to be working correctly, but what's happening is that the hand throttle setup doesn't have enough force to hold the cable open. As a result, instead of the...

    John Deere 1010 governor problem

Please post a picture with the carburetor to governor linkage installed on the governor. I saw the picture with it removed, but it doesn't allow me to analyze whats going with the rod being too short.

Post a picture of the linkage installed as it was when you got the tractor. That will help us identify what is going on and if you have the correct parts.
