    1944 JD A carb?

It could be a DLTX 18. By your serial number, your tractor would have originally came with a DLTX 53 carb. However, the 18 is off an earlier A and should run just fine for you. If it is an 18, it has a choke rod off a later carb. There is a DLTX 81, but that is a two-barrel carb for a 60.

    720 John Deere paint color

I can tell you a lot of the new Deere equipment coming from the factory today (outside of what is powder coated) is getting sprayed with PPG paint.

    1935 John Deere B

I'll echo UnstyledB's comments. I thought maybe it was just me, but I have had carbs as well I have had to have off more than once and found the idle passages with junk in them again after even a few minutes of run time. The one you have to remove the brass plug and stick the drill bit through...

    1935 John Deere B

Did you drill out the idle passages while you had it apart?

    Aftermarket head on A

I agree. The stock pushrods and whole rocker assembly can be used as is. The rods I was referring to were my connecting rods. After putting the Heisler on I was pretty disappointed with how little extra compression and power it made. So the next year I tore it back down, had the connecting...

    Aftermarket head on A

As long as you use the A 587 R head, either the gas Heisler (HA- 362) or a stock all fuel John Deere (A 362 R) manifolds should fit.

John Deere AR factory service / shop manual

I would agree with your research that there really isn't anything detailed out there for an A specifically. SM2004 is the service manual for B's S/N 96000 (1939) and up and is the most detailed letter series two-cylinder service manual I am aware of. I use it as a reference for anything A/B/G...

    1935 John Deere B

If you can screw the idle screw in and it doesn't seem to make much difference, there is a decent chance that the idle circuit is blocked and it is just pulling fuel off the load side.

    Plow Y 4678-B

It sure appears to be a 999 planter. They were produced from 1912 to 1951 (longest production run of any John Deere planter). In the later years the 999-L was available from the factory with a three-point option. Yours appears to have been originally a drawn plow (possibly horse drawn) and...

    John Deere AR counter-shaft issues

I may be remembering incorrectly, but the way the bearings go on the shaft, they bottom out on the on the shaft and not the stack of gears and spacers don't they? If that is the case, the end play on the shaft itself will be controlled by the taper bearings and their pre-load. Even if there...

    John Deere AR counter-shaft issues

If you have taken the whole shim pack out and still have excessive movement in that shaft, wear in the taper bearings (on either or both ends) would contribute to the movement you are seeing as well. Those bearings, especially the one on the first reduction gear side, have a tendency to wear out.

I can't make the numbers out good enough to match it up online, but I'm jumping on the valve guide band wagon. Possibly motorcycle or small engine?

    1956 70D Clutch/Pulley Disassembly

The last one I took off on an A I messed with for 3 days. Heating, beating, and trying a variety of pullers. I destroyed a pretty good sized one in the process. I wound up taking it to the machine shop and they had my old gear off and new one on a couple hours after I dropped it off. It only...

    What is it?

It it to make a four post bed into a canopy bed. You have two, but you need two more. They bolt together with a fineal in the middle. The round part goes on the posts.

    FTC suing John Deere

I'm sorry you had a poor experience with your dealer. However, the nature of that lawsuit is that Deere is restricting customers' ability to purchase parts and tools/services in order to make repairs themselves or have them done by an independent mechanic. In your specific case, there is...

John Deere B valve cover gasket?

I agree with sealer on the valve cover side and grease on the other. There are silicone gaskets available now for a little more money than the cork. They seal well and can be reused multiple times.

Gearing reduction on a John Deere A

A first reduction gear set from a single stick A can be swapped into your 47 and will slow it down 8%. The gears are a direct swap, but do have to be done as a set. A first reduction gear set from a 620/630 can be used as well and will slow it down 12%, but requires a little more work as the...
