Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Well the first check I did was to ensure adequate fuel level in the tank. I made the mistake in the past thinking the fuel tank had fuel in it because the sediment bowl was full, but it will always be full even if the tank is empty. Then I disconnected the fuel line and opened the fuel valve and...

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

I actually found the video you're likely talking about. Yes it is a 1/4"

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Im pretty sure the problem was float set too low. Readjusted float, running much better now with choke all the way in.

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Thanks to everyone who offered advice. I did a lot of checks based on your suggestions and learned a lot through it all. (I could probably take the carb apart and put it back together blind-folded now):) I think I finally found the problem. The last time I removed the carb, I noticed there was...

Thanks Jim. That's very similar to one I removed.

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Thanks Bartman, Everything feels pretty tight - other than the butterfly shaft which I tried to remedy with an O-Ring (took away the play but won't keep running). But I'll give the carb cleaner a try and see what happens. Thanks

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

The tractor had ran for years just fine with an in-line filter. Just one filter- and the screen in the tank.

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Thanks for the advice. Checked the hookup and it is ok. So that's not the problem in this case.

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Thanks Jim. I was quite confident it wasn't a fuel supply to the carb problem. I took the carb apart again and blew through all passages. No change. It will run awhile with the choke pulled out then start to sputter and die. I can keep it going for awhile if I play with the choke but it...

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

Goose, Thanks for your reply. I checked play on the butterfly shaft and was surprised at how loose it felt. I found a small O-Ring, greased it up and slide it over the shaft between the housing and linkage. It took away the play around the shaft and I was optimistic about my fix as I reinstalled...

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

MarkB Thanks for your advice. Disassembled carb again, poked fine wire through all passages followed by carb cleaner. No change.

Why does my choke have to on for tractor to run?

I have a 1955 VAI Case that I am having some carb problems with. I have cleaned and rebuilt the carb, fuel tank was chemical cleaned and lined. The only way I can keep the tractor running is to have the choke closed to the 3/4 position. It does however, run pretty smooth this way. I have tried...

VAI Case - Only 2-3 PSI Oil Pressure

Sorry for my delayed follow-up reply. I found a 0-30 psi oil pressure gauge on Amazon for $35 (Can). It shows 18psi oil pressure. I have been using the little tractor regularly with no problem. Thanks to everyone for your help resolving this issue. This is a great forum.

VAI Case - Only 2-3 PSI Oil Pressure

Well I guess 10 psi must be enough pressure then. Mine might actually be hitting 10 psi but on a 0-80 psi gauge the needle is barely off the pin so hard to tell. On your 0-30 psi guage, 10psi is a good showing. I have a 0-30 psi gauge on order and it should be here next week. Thanks for your...

VAI Case - Only 2-3 PSI Oil Pressure

Thanks for your research. My current thinking is maybe I don't really have a problem with the actual oil "pressure" but more likely the "range" of my current oil pressure gauge (0-80 psi). Others have suggested acceptable oil pressure as low as 10 psi which on my current 0-80 psi gauge would...

VAI Case - Only 2-3 PSI Oil Pressure

Gently blew air into the gauge and it moves freely so don’t think it’s stuck. Thanks for the suggestion.
