    Saint Patrick's day 1964

Not meaning to "pee on the charcoal" so to speak, but March 17, 2004 was the day of my mother's funeral. It carries very sad memories for me, and I refuse to ever celebrate it again.

Safety - First of the year, everyone replace your smoke detector batteries in your house and outbuildings.

Doubtful. If anything, it would more likely be year around DST. Why? Because in the summer, sun would be coming up at 3:30am. I really don't think anybody would like that - especially the constituents of the congressmen.

Safety - First of the year, everyone replace your smoke detector batteries in your house and outbuildings.

Awwww Gee. Let's not start that argument all over again. I might add that I do not have a CO detector. That's because there are no devices in this house that rely on any fuel other than electricity.

Maybe I will get kicked off for this but i have a question.

There it is! You said it! A toxin! I rest my case.

    Alternator bearings

Chances are that the brushes will have worn far enough into the slip rings on the stator to cause alternator failure before the bearings give trouble. To point out the logic of replacing these bearings before they fail, apply the same logic to every other part of the tractor. After all, every...

Well, I still think it is a stupid expression, Mike!

Maybe I will get kicked off for this but i have a question.

Agreed! Finally the one other person that actually knows what decimate really means. Caeser punished his troops for losses by decimating them - executing every tenth soldier. While I am here, one expression that irks me more than anything is "going viral." What is a virus? Something BAD and...

Advanced auto parts and Car Quest?

My own experience with Rock Auto has been just the opposite of yours. MOST parts that I have bought from Rock Auto have been very much less expensive than say, Auto Zone or Advance - even when shipping is added in. The things I would prefer to buy locally are consumables like brakes that come...

Safety - First of the year, everyone replace your smoke detector batteries in your house and outbuildings.

I suppose it depends on the cost of the maintenance contract. BUT, non-performance by the maintenance company could cost a whole lot more in the long run if there is ever a fire.

Safety - First of the year, everyone replace your smoke detector batteries in your house and outbuildings.

Not so much a short fuse as you basically called me out as being either ignorant or a liar. I made a statement that I couldn't change my battery and the reason why. You then posted that I was wrong. You basically told me that I didn't know what I was talking about?!?!? Really? While I have the...

Safety - First of the year, everyone replace your smoke detector batteries in your house and outbuildings.

Wrong. As I said, every smoke detector in my house is a SEALED UNIT with NO REPLACEABLE BATTERIES. Made by Kidde model P3010L. Right on the box it says "10-year sealed-in Lithium Battery Operated." So, now you are going to tell me that the manufacturer is wrong? And that what I have in my...

Safety - First of the year, everyone replace your smoke detector batteries in your house and outbuildings.

All of my smoke detectors are sealed units with a 10-year service life. No batteries to change, just replace them when their time is up.

Advanced auto parts and Car Quest?

When I am working on a job, that isn't always an option. Also, if I have to wait for it, I may as well order from Rock Auto and save a bunch of money in the process. Generally, when they don't have it, I will shop around town to find somebody that has the part I need.

Advanced auto parts and Car Quest?

Many times, when working on a friend's car or truck, I have gone to NAPA to get parts. So far, it has been a 100% strike-out. They have yet to have anything I need. Always end up at AZ.

Wal-Mart was started by Sam Walton, NOT Wall. Sam's Club is the "upscale" version of Wal-Mart - named for SAM Walton.

Advanced auto parts and Car Quest?

Not to disagree, but I must. The wiper blades I bought from Rock Auto are still on both cars, and both are working just fine. No streaking, skipping, or falling apart. To get the same level of performance from a local store will cost north of $60. When it comes to problems with damaged parts, I...

Advanced auto parts and Car Quest?

Many of the parts stores are pricing themselves out of business. While I do understand that they need to make a profit to keep the lights on and to keep inventory, they are getting out of hand. Say, for example, a $10 part. Order it on line, and it costs $2 with another $5 for shipping. Net...

    Copper/zink interaction?

From the looks of things, you are about to make a batttery. Copper and zinc make to dissimilar metals. Groundwater containing minerals makes an excellent electrolyte. Now you have a battery. Galvanic corrosion will follow if it gets wet. Basic chemistry 101.
