    G705 hydraulic oil filter

There was a discussion here about 10 years ago that concluded hydraulic oil filters for the 705 were simply not available anywhere. I'm wondering if there has been any update since then? If I remember correctly, some owners had found filters that were very close, but not quite there. An external...

    Radiator gasket

I've cut a gasket out of 1/8 rubberised cork. Does it seem to be the right thickness? The old gasket (not mine) was rubber, also about 1/8 thick and with lots of silicon, just the ordinary plumbing stuff. It sealed fine. This is the second time around. The first time I coated the rubberised cork...

    Another M602 brake question

Thanks MMDL. no, I didn't think to check the lash - my plan was to put everything back exactly as it had come out. I've now found some suitable paper that measures exactly 0.005, so should work out okay. Appreciate your advice. Jack

    Another M602 brake question

I finally got the brake plates out with the oil seals and was surprised how thin the gaskets are. I measure them at 0.004 but expect they were 0.005 when new. I usually make my own gaskets and am not sure I'll be able to get paper that thin. I guess it's acceptable to use slightly thicker paper...

    M602/4 brakes

Meant to say thanks for the advice, it was very helpful. Turned out to be a rather challenging job, though. Left side was pretty easy but the right tested my patience. I couldn't turn the pull rod using the outside double nuts, and the jam nut wouldn't budge either. Ended up soaking it for a few...

    M602/4 brakes

I'm slowly working my way through restoring a 604 and decided the pedals need to come off for cleaning up and priming. Worked out that I need to loosen the jam nuts to remove the brake pull rods in order to get the pedals off but they aren't easy to get at. Tried a couple of different approaches...

    M604 steering leak

All sorted. I drained the oil, pulled the sleeve and cleaned it all thoroughly. Then applied a generous application of blue silicon, quite a bit more than previously, and the leak has gone. I now have just an ever so slight leak from around the input shaft even after a new O-ring, but can...

    M604 steering leak

I've been rebuilding the steering on a 604, new O-rings, gaskets etc. It's gone back together very nicely except for one problem. After I put oil in it (up to the bottom of the plug on the right-hand side of the housing) it started to slowly leak at the right hand end plug. It's coming from...

    336D questions

Ive just put the pan back on after a strung out rebuild. The IT manual says you need to reach in through the oil filter opening to reinstall two cap screws at the back. I dont see anywhere to put them. That particular chapter refers to several models. Were there differences between pans? I...

    Snap over force for M602

Whats the correct setting for engaging the Ampili-Torq into direct drive? The IT manual is confusing - mentions both 35lbs and 55-60. Or is it enough to just make sure it snaps over very positively? Jack

    Draining Ampli-Torq on 604

Thanks, Chris. I pulled that plug late today and drained the ampli-torc compartment. Should be able to get the front seal out now without any problems. I had wondered why the level plug for the ampli-torc is higher than the gearbox. Appreciate the explanation. Your comments indicate the gearbox...

    Draining Ampli-Torq on 604

I'm sure I have read about this here in the past but can't find the post. If I understand correctly the oil supply for the Ampli-Torq spills over from the gearbox? I'm replacing the input seal. There is a drain plug on the left-hand side of the AT compartment. I'm assuming this will evacuate the...

    Clutch in 602

Thanks, Chris. Ive figured out it would likely be sintered bronze that needs no lubrication or just a drop of oil. Jack

    602/4 diesel clutch plate

Yes, I wondered about that. Not really sure why the diesel needs the damper springs and the others don't. Possibly because it doesn't idle as smoothly and transfers vibrations to the transmission? Doesn't look like it would be too difficult to transfer the facings - might be the safest option.

    602/4 diesel clutch plate

I have a refurbished clutch plate with new facings that I picked up last time I was in the US. Just noticed it doesn't have the central damper springs like my old one, and the splined hub is a 1/4 shorter. A check of the parts book shows there were different plates for the diesel and gas/LP. I...

    What fans fit a 602?

The fan on the 604 that I'm restoring has been butchered with an inch or so removed from the end of each blade. I will advertise here in Australia to see if I can find one locally. I know an M5 fan would work, but are there any other models with the same part? There aren't that many MMs here -...
