    Bridgeport question

@Brokengun: Bought that one just now. Been waiting for a good deal and at 67 bucks, it was A-OK. Thank you! A flycutter works just fine boring a hole if one has nothing else. A magneto driving disk of aluminium didn't mind. :) Boring a hole sure let me know how loose the gibs are in my crappy...

    Shell Rotella?

Years ago, I asked a chief at the sales agency of gas powered, air cooled engines we used: Hey Tom, can we use Diesel oil in these engines wthout voiding the warranty? He said: By all means, far better oil to use! So we did.

What's your guy's opinion on electronic ignition

One more anecdotal if I may: 80's Gehl skid loader with a small Pinto engine. I knew the distributer had a worn bushing on top so the shaft wiggled and perhaps gave funky timing but it was the condensers causing me the worst trouble. I didn't find out about capacitors for distributers until...

    Identifying my grandfather's Tractors

No, not catch on fire but some flame out the exhaust sometimes. :) I've seen other engines spit a little fire out the exhaust once in awhile. It's said they have 7 carburateurs. I found 6 when I counted. Four for running on gas. One for each cylinder. There'd be at least one for Kerosene and...

    Identifying my grandfather's Tractors

True enough Mr Not! Cripes, I got on his four-wheeler, next to the flaming four, to look at something. I could get on the thing, getting off? Almost looked like me and fell off!

    Antique Toledo scale

They can be certified if desired. The 2010 or so cert stickers are still on a large, hundred yr old Fairbanks scale from the shipping dept where I used to work.

    Silo for Saturday

There is a 3 part tube video of the Femco farms. Towards the last vid of the 3, one can get a better sense of the holes in those silos. The videographer went inside one of the silos. It creeped me out. Great story tho!

pg 1 or p2 paint codes colours

MMcollectors .org site even admits most folks use the PG2, DAR 60039. PG1, DAR 60098X. The more yellow paint. Both no longer exist, I believe. Hope I'm wrong. Funky, I think I could go to the fleet store and get paint but you're in the UK. What a bugger.

Moline collectibles what do you have?

A used MM oil filter. Still pretty like GB's new ones. Oh, and a very low production 1/16 scale U? that the club procured from Spec Cast I think for an MM feature.

    Sb lathe

According to me: That ol' SB 9C is a wee bit older. My neck stuck way out, it's was built in the 30's or maybe the real early 40's. I haven't fully worked out when the spindle oilers moved from the top to the side for wick oiling. But in 1941 the oilers were on the side. You know this already...

    Lathe cutting of revisited

Dave Gingery once told me: "If it works, that's the right way to do it." Ya know, borrow your neighbor's screen door, melt it down and cast turning lathe parts... That Dave Gingery. On odd or unwieldy parts, a porta band would be handy as heck. In my case a hacksaw has been the way to go if...

In praise of LED lighting for older tractors!

Opinion from a madman: When meeting vehicles with very bright lights: That tall pickup is blaring its lights in your face, even if on dim. A handy trick on your brain, IF you can do it... Natural tendancy is to blink right? Mine is. Oww! Don't blink. Wait. You're in need of a blink right? Did...

Prepping a gas tank for welding

Gas and fuel tanks formed, rolled and crimped together. I'm sure no chains being pulled on this? Then the joints soldered. Steel tanks. Hundreds of thousands upon hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of steel gas tanks sealed this way at the factories across the planet. Then repaired with...
