drill bits with a flat on one side of shank

I have a set of Viper drill bits. They each have a flat side on the shank. They resist coming loose very well. Is there a name or term for this type of shank? Also who else makes or sells this type (for heavy drilling) such as cobalt or carbide?

case international 8330 cutter conditioner spring broke

My Case International 8330 hay cutter has a steel lower roller and a rubber upper roller. I truly don't need to crimp my hay because we have such low humidity and high temperatures that our hay dries quickly without crimping. Now the spring which seems to put pressure on the top roller broke. I...

    Abandoned equipment

McCormick-Deering #7 mower looks as if it has had very little use from what I see of the lugs on the wheels. Probably an easy salvage and worth a couple hundred or several hundred depending on location and buyers. kelly

    Farmall 300 + & - AGAIN!!!

Again, it has an alternator. I changed the cables so it is negative ground. It did a rapid clicking sound when I attempted to start/crank it. I figured the solenoid was/is bad. Went to town and bought a new one & installed it. When I try to attach the switch/start (positive) cable to the...

    Farmall 300 + & - battery

I was trying to install a 12volt battery in my Farmall 300 row crop yesterday. I put the switch/starter/power cable on the negative battery post. When I tried to put the ground cable onto the positive battery post it sparked. My I & T Shop Manual says it is a positive ground. What's going on?

    Update - Grain Drill Setting

I appreciate the replies. My 82 year old neighbor told me 50 lbs/A is the usual seeding rate and he said he plants 60. Texas A & M info says 25 to 30 pounds per acre is the "generally recommended" planting rate, BUT says 40 to 50 lb/A when "broadcast" and some varieties are planted at 70 to 80...

Grain Drill Setting for Milo or Hay Grazer???

Help, please . . . I'm trying to plant some "hay grazer" (sorghum-sudangrass hybrid) with my old grain drill. The seed looks like bb's./milo/grain sorghum. My grain drill has no setting with this name. The drill is a John Deere Model B 12 x 7. The "notches" read 0 to 60. I want to plant at a...

    found a Farmall H

The major positive of a wide front is greater stability. The major negative of a wide front is they don't turn as sharply (and they are a bit harder to steer/turn).

    Nuts For Horse Drawn Wagon

AHA! Thanks Jim.ME, you always seem to come up with help for me. I think the thread locker is the answer. I appreciate the ideas of chisels on threads and center punch but those just don't seem to be easy. Thanks tho to all! kelly

    Nuts For Horse Drawn Wagon

I'm rebuilding my old 7' by 12' hay wagon. I use 1/4' GALVANIZED bolts. There is LOTS of movement/vibration with a wagon. The lock washers often do not hold the nut. I can buy stainless steel, but they are expensive and don't fit well onto the galvanized bolts. I cannot find GALVANIZED nylon...

    Litchfield Steel Wagon

Looks like a competitor??? to the Davenport Wagon. Did the Litchfield wagon have any wheel bearings? The Davenport was supposedly the first all steel running gear. It also had roller bearings about 3" in diameter and about 8" long. Later the company was purchased by John Deere. kelly

Is there finish on new wood?

I'm putting some new sides on my hay wagon to haul people at Christmas time. I bought some 1 x 6 common boards. Stickers on them say: Made In Sweden. I applied semi-transparent oil stain today. It wasn't a great drying day, mostly cloudy with a high temp. of 65. After five of six hours the stain...

    Tractor/Road Graders

Just curious about tractors made into road graders. I've seen pictures of many Allis and some Farmalls. Were there ever others like Oliver or Minnieapolis? What about John Deere? kelly

    JD damming Lister...

Wow! I remember these. They sounded like a great idea. However they didn't continue to be made and sold for very long. They had disadvantages. As I understood it, they pulled HARD! And, because the farmers tried to use them to farm straight up and down hills, the first good rain washed them ALL...
