    1550 narrow front

Bearings should be prepacked. Just use a wheel bearing grease or even just ordinary EP2 standard grease will be fine.

    Oliver 18 combine....

The pick up on a 18 just bolts on same head in front of the sickle bar. Not a big deal to take on and off. if seller doesnt have the reel the buyer will have to find one or swath his grain which in my experience with 18's feeds through machine much better than direct cutting anyway. If that one...

    2-105 upgrades

Yes does look good!Open station on a 105 is the way to go. Makes them so much nicer to operate. Until the 2-88 and 2-110 came out with the better cab I dont know how anyone could tolerate the noise and vibrations etc in those old style cabs. There is something about White fenders I dont like...

    Sharpening baler plunger knives...your thoughts

Flying Belgian: In regards to a new baler knife for a 65 I asked at the NH dealer a few years back. According to them no longer available. The brother found my lost pitchfork buried in a windrow so I really need to change the knives out on the one baler. I have bought a couple for parts and one...

Would you trust buying a used connecting rod?

Aint never seen anything like that before! In your search for rods I believe super 77, 770,super 66,660,and maybe even 1550 rods are the same? I have never had a 550 apart before but by what I have heard a 550 is pretty much same as a super 77 just 2 less cyl's? Others will know for sure as...

Swapping bull gear pinions on 88

Maybe others have done this, but thought I would share in case you Oliver people ever encounter the same issue. I am going over a 88 to put our new pulling engine in and found one bull gear pinion had some significant divits and wear on the forward drive side of gear. So swapped the two gears...

    Oliver 1800A gas

Just about any 6 cylinder oliver that came out of Charles City from the fleetlines on up except the perkins in the 1850 diesel can be made to work, ( some with minor modification) but for that heavy of a tractor I wouldnt want to stick a 77 motor in there anyway! I rebuilt a 283 out of a 1650...

Did I just waste a considerable amount of money on a Paquea 910 PTO drive fluffer/tedder?

I have a couple ground drive fluffer /tedders that I would not be without. One has aluminum wings on it that kinda keeps hay in a baleable windrow. I most always use it after hay gets rained on, or even to get early cut hay up off the ground. They really let the air get thru the hay to help dry...

    D21 Hitch Lift Cylinders

There is no such thing as a cylinder that is not repairable. Not feasible, or not realistic maybe? If rods, and or inside of barrel is pitted badly there is at least two options. #1 Have them industrial hard chromed and ground. #2 Buy new cylinder tubing and new pc of chrome rod stock and machine...

    Timing cover removal

Govenor will come off with the timing cover. Just grab your least favorite screwdriver and tap it in EQUALLY at both pins. I believe cover is cast aluminum not diecast. If you mark the cover some just take a file and remove the burrs. I know it sounds kinda crude!

    shift rail indent block overhaul

Had 88 apart that the center shift rail was stuck. Had to take the detent block off to remedy, then could not get the balls pushed in against the springs to slide back on. Made 3 pcs of 3/4 inch round up with a 30 degree taper on the end to intstall the balls into detent block, then push the...

    Crank pulley removal

I assume if you are taking off the crank pulley you are going to do a complete overhaul? You may as well get the engine out and on a engine stand so its easier to work on. Getting the bolt out of the end of crank is the easy part, just use an impact, or a good jerk on that 3/4 drive you have on...

    oliver head gasket goop

I have never heard tell of putting any sort of gasket goop around coolant passages?? there are nitrile or some such rings that fit into holes in the head gasket that seal the coolant passages. Putting any sort of "gasket goop" on your head gasket is going to cause more problems than it solves. I...

    M670 Minneapolis moline more rpm’s

Just curios how you know that you have no valve float? Not saying you do just wondering how you know for sure? I would think a small amount of valve bouncing off seat when supposed to be closed would be real hard to detect??

    farming on a budget

I hear you on the brush clean up. I still have whole trees to clean up along the east side of a piece of rented ground plus one other hay field. East side of trees seemed to take a bigger hit? Someone asked me why I wasnt putting it out by the road for the city to chip? I literally doubt I have...

    farming on a budget

The main reason I dont do it like you in one pass is on my ground there are always rocks that stick up even after rolling, and you cant really stop to pick up rocks when you are sewing or you will see the evidence when the grain comes up. I go around the field with the harrows and roller and...

    New to me Super 55

I am assuming you took the oil pump pick up off as I see its missing in your picture. I am afraid you are in for a rebuild or find a good replacment engine. Rest of tractor looks pretty good so probably worth it to have it overhauled then you will know what you have? Probably cost you more than...

Oliver 1650 clutch throw out bearing blown

Backing it off more as in more free travel is not going to have any bearing on slippage, but if you go too far clutch will not disengage. It sounds like you have a finger style clutch, if that is the case I have found on more than one pressure plate the factory settings of the 3 or sometimes 4...
