    Allis 160 perkins diesel rebuild/swap?

My little 160 gave up the ghost a while back while I was bush hogging. I'd been cutting for a while, and suddenly, it sounded as if the engine came under a tremendous load. The "heavy loaded" sound continued after I kicked off the pto. So I drove straight to the barn and shut it down, It had...

    2640 gaining crankcase oil level

My 2640 (tiger stripe) is gaining oil level in the crankcase sump. It's about 1 1/2" above the full mark. Appears clean - no water or milky appearance. the dipstick doesn't smell like fuel. Is there a pathway from the hydraulics into the crankcase? Likely problem(s)?

    JD Tech Manual download

Thanks for the reply. The problem is I haven"t been able to copy and paste, unless I do it one page at a time. Now I"m not the best at this, so any help you would like to suggest I"m all ears (and part thumbs when it comes to the keyboard).

    JD Tech Manual download

I"ve purchased a couple tech manuals in CD form from Deere. I bought them from Deere, not on line, flea market etc. I"d like to download them to my hard drive, but can"t seem to. I had a computer buddy at work try, and he says it"s too well protected. Anyone else figure a way around this...

    welder Q

I"m thinking about getting a decent ac/dc welder for the farm shop. Also wanting portability. Thinking a little too hard about it. A thought came to me. Is there anyone who has rigged something like a gas powered bobcat 225NT so it can be used as a welder by plugging it into a 50 Amp 240V...

    MF 150 versus Mf 165

Thanks to all who have responded. It seems like I"m hearing a 165 would be a good fit for my farm. That gives me more choices. In case anyone has a 152 engine, I actually spend more time in Delaware and Maryland"s Eastern Shore than NJ.

    MF 150 versus Mf 165

Tony, Thanks for the reply. Yes, it might be rebuildable, but the crank has significant play in both axial and radial directions. Not just the pulley, but the actual crank. Just before I shut it down, it sounded like there was a big load put on it, and in a couple minutes it overheated. It...

    MF 150 versus Mf 165

Good Morning folks, I have recently retired an old Allis 160 when the perkins 152 diesel died. I think I broke the crank, and the engine was the best part of the tractor. I"ve replaced it with a larger green diesel tractor, but I really miss my little easy on fuel tractor for mowing and...

    2640 air precleaner and pipe

Thanks for the replies folks. If I"m understanding all I"m reading, this pipe should extend through the hood. I have the long pipe, I have the hood gromet. My pipe doesn"t have the brace as shown in the pic, but I got it mail order through a tractor dismantler - it may have come off something...

    2640 air precleaner and pipe

Mark, I don"t see the difference on JD parts. Mine is a later ser # with tiger stripes on the hood. The air filter housing is in front of the radiator. The pipe I have apparantly came from a 4020. The bowl is an aftermarket that is the same diameter as the JD part. But there"s no way it...

    2640 air precleaner and pipe

Thanks fellows. I checked the JD parts site when I bought the stuff in December, and IIRC, they didn"t make the pipe any more. I thought about putting it through the hood - easy enough to do. However, I"m yet to see a picture of one with the pipe through the hood. Anyone care to correct me...

    2640 air precleaner and pipe

I"m still working toward getting the 2640 I bought last winter ready to use. When I started digging into the tractor, I found the precleaner and the pipe it sits on were missing. I purchased a pipe from a mail order tractor junk yard, and a precleaner from ebay. The pipe is too long (nearly 2...

    lime spreader truck operation

The truck doesn"t have a scale that I"ve found, but it does have an adjustable gate. Pics of the truck and some compost can be seen on flickr. my handle there is srtphotos. Just searching compost will get you there also. As for how I make a couple (not several) thousand yd3/yr. I get...

    lime spreader truck operation

I"m building my sandy, wore out, 26 acres of dirt with a couple thousand yards per year of compost I"m making. I just put into service a 1970 lime spreader truck to spread lime and compost. Spreading my compost, I"m not all that concerned with , I"m concerned that when I spread my lime, I want...

    2640 radiator

As I get my new to me 2640 (late) ready for working, I"m thinking about replacing the radiator. I"ve already blown the large amount of dirt/debris that I could get out of the fins, but it still gets warm after about 1/2 hour of hard loader use. By the time I have the 30 year old radiator...
