    Trusting you tach

Hi, originally the primary fuel filter had a water drain on the bottom and secondary didn't have the drain. According to my brother during the pandemic, oil and fuel filters became difficult to find in Canada and CIH only carried the one with the drain tap on the bottom but it fit both...

    Trusting you tach

Hi, good, I prefer those spin on filters. See photos below from my brother's CIH 495 with D-179 engine. The 495 has some updates from the 484 but same engine, it has a coolant filter on the right side of engine just above primary fuel filter and it has a Bosch VE pump vs the Bosch VA pump on the...

    Trusting you tach

See photo below of fuel filters, if it is the NAPA Gold brand make sure that the previous owner did not install an extra O-ring gasket in the opening around the outer rim of the filter. This problem was discovered by @Dieseltech a few years ago.

    Trusting you tach

A couple checks first, see photo below, make sure when the STOP-START-RUN lever is in the RUN position and that the Fuel Control Lever rests against the front adjustment screw. Next make sure you have good fuel flow from the tank to the pump and you have replaced the fuel filters recently. Since...

    IH 884 stop cable replacement

Does your 884 have the old style STOP-START-RUN on the panel below the steering wheel or does it have a cab with the newer style like a choke cable. Old Style New Style, on my brother's CIH 495 and 3230, the small nuts on the cable at the pump end were a metric size, IIRC.

Pulling trailers with 3 point mounted drawbar VS swinging drawbar

@BobTx , you are very correct on the old Fords and Fergusons had the two sets of bars for the 3PT. Dad had a Farmall SC and a Ford 8N in the early 1950s. I learned to drive a tractor on the 8N, raked hay with it using a Ferguson 3PT side delivery rake, skidded logs, pulled wagons and pulled a...

Pulling trailers with 3 point mounted drawbar VS swinging drawbar

Looking at the photo you posted, the front of the trailer is sloped forward and unless the trailer has a walking beam axles the more load will be on the front axle. I did notice you have the hitch on the tongue of the trailer at the lowest adjustment point but I noticed the drawbar has a curve...

Pulling trailers with 3 point mounted drawbar VS swinging drawbar

Do you have a set of Ford/Ferguson sway bars that attached to the inside of 3PT drawbar and to the top link pin to hold the 3PT drawbar in a solid position? With the swap bars installed set the height of the 3PT drawbar about the height of the PTO shaft NEVER go above the height of the rear...

    IH 444 with unknown loader??

OK, the ones we had in Canada had a lever on the side of the lift pump that you used to fill the fuel filters and prime the CAV pump. Another improvement by IH Louisville, KY.

    IH 444 with unknown loader??

Can you prime the CAV pump by using the hand pump on the lift pump on the right side of the engine?

CIH Clutch release (throw-out) bearing lube?

If you have a Cab tractor, the clutch pedal will be connected to a Master Cylinder which will be connect to a Slave Cylinder that is connected to the clutch shaft. I am not sure if you can access the the clutch shaft from under the left front of the cab or if you have to lift the floor mat and...

CIH Clutch release (throw-out) bearing lube?

No, the bearing is sealed. Your 895 probably has the constant running throw out bearing with item #28 THRUST WASHER, it is a hard fiber material that locks into the fingers of the pressure plate and the throw out bearing contacts it instead of the fingers, so no wear on the fingers from the...

    CIH 85 series transmission

Hi Sandy, so spraying with PB and cleaning shift linkage fixed the problem? Hhydro tech over on the Redpower forum suggested that to keep the shift mechanism working properly use chain saw bar oil on it. I still have to visit my brother’s friend that has a 685 stuck in 2nd gear, he works road...

Ford 8N No Power To Rear Wheels

Jack both rear wheels a little off the ground, with engine OFF and Trans in any gear, manually rock each wheel a little forward and reverse and you possibly you can feel the gear slop between the axle gear and the spider gears, this will indicate if one axle is broken or not. Next rotate one...

Clogged Fuel Filter Found in Fuel Lift Pump IH 260A (IH 684)

The first versions of the IH 54/74 built in Doncaster, UK in the early 1970s had a CAV/DPA injection pump that required a lift pump run from the camshaft, installed exactly where the one is on your TBL, later versions switched to the Bosch injection pump and the lift pump was not required. Then...
