Coat a head gasket or not

I agree with Rodney51. You will likely get opinions both ways. I use coppercoat. I have had coolant leaks through the head gasket after torquing even with good surfaces.

    Starter mystery

I am not aware of a 12 volt vs 6 volt starter. As I understand it all the starters used on these old tractors were all the same whether your system was 12 volt or 6 volt. Obviously, the battery and charging systems were specific. I might suggest checking connections. If your starter is acting...

    1951 Farmall Cub Hydraulic Leak

Are you certain that the hyd fluid is coming out of the clutch access port?? I am having a hard time thinking of how it could get there?

Typically those points are used to mount a pivot point for a rear attachment such as a plow or rear cultivator lift.

    Farmall A frost plug size

I went through the exact same thing. Sucks to split a tractor just to change a frost plug. Plan to clean out a bunch of gunk behind the plug/plugs. I might pass a on a bit of advice that I read on this forum. “Think about the next guy who will someday own the tractor and install a brass plug.”...

    Farmall C Hydraulics

If you have a regular C the best way is to use the diverter block. You can buy one on the sleezebay for about $80. It is basically a plate the sandwiches between your touch control unit and the hydraulic line. You will still need hydraulic lines, a separate valve and a reservoir for the return...

    Someone stop me I-9

If the hood and gas tank are in as good of shape as that grill and fenders……..then I would have a really hard time saying no.

    1954 Farmall Super C Revival

I have run into this problem before with replacement rotors. Once I had to tap the rotor down because it wasn’t seating all the way down the shaft. It was causing the same problem you are describing. Are you sure the rotor is all the way down?

    340 Weak hydraulic flow

Check the filter. I know you said you just put in a new filter but check it again. I changed the filter in mine and it acted like it was blocked on suction. Finally I checked the new filter and it was clogged up. I agree with Fritz, really sounds like suction side.

    How to remove brake seals

BV1960, Welcome to the forum. Remove any of the peddle and shaft parts first. Then remove the stamped steel cover and brake bands that covers your brakes and drum. Once you have removed the drum itself you will see the brake shaft seal. The only way short of major disassembly is to pull the...

    Farmall Cub oil pump measurements

OTJ, Same here, my incorrect gasket thickness measured .019. Really sucks breaking all that nice paint. Just for the archives here is a picture up of the wrong gasket and the correct CNH gasket. My correct gasket measured .005.

    Farmall Cub oil pump measurements

Fritz, Sorry, I made a typo on the seven thousandths dimension. The gear with was within .001. I meant ten thousandths. The .002 to .006 tolerance is exactly the info that I was looking for. My pump variance is within .001 so with the .004 gasket I feel comfortable. Thanks guys.

    Farmall Cub oil pump measurements

I never really got a great measurement, because the gears themselves varied in thickness from one point to another on the same gear. One measurement would read 7 ten thousandths above the case surface, another point was 7 thousandths below. Once I measured the gear width I understood why...

    Farmall Cub oil pump measurements

Thanks Jim, those numbers sound correct to me. I have not had a problem with oil psi, just loosing pump prime. I have been priming the pump through the plug behind the hydraulic lines. I was sold a factory made gasket that was too thick, so I had to split the tractor. I really don’t understand...

    Farmall Cub oil pump measurements

Gents, I am working on the engine oil pump on my cub. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the dimensions or tolerances for the pump. Specifically, the machined surface of the pump to the gears. It appears to be within a thousandth. I have the correct gasket which is reportedly .004...

I agree…..I have done better buying NOS or good condition OEM than I have with anything from the china junk market.

    Ih loadstar carb

I have a couple of those old loadstar 1800s. They both have factory Holley two barrel carbs. Those truck’s typically came with IH 345 V8 gas guzzlers. It’s my opinion from the few of those that I have and have owned that if you can find an old Holley two barrel or similar that will fit and run...

    Faded paint

What works best for me is an automotive buffer and polishing compounds. The image shows a pair of farmall hood panels that started out the same. One polished and the other still faded.
