Ok, y’all have gotten me thru replacing transmission/rear-end and related synchro shifter adjustments. I, once again, have a working transmission. This may be a dumb question but does anyone have any ideas, tricks, hacks etc for how to get that ltl castle nut screwed onto top shifter shaft inside transmission?? My fingers are seriously challenged getting btwn shaft and the shifter forks……I’ve deposited 2 into transmission and had no luck recovering w magnet🤬

Use a strong magnetic pick up tool. Stick the nut to the end . Once you get the nut in place turn the tool to get it started. Works for small screws, bolts and nuts. I have several with different size heads to accomplish this.

M-Man,
Any suggestions on where I might locate the correct magnet for this job? I’ve blown thru 2 cheapies from harbor freight trying to get the afore mentioned nuts out of my transmission. So need look elsewhere for this one. Thanks!

My bigger ones are Craftsman. The smaller ones I picked up at an industrial supply house. Magnet strength is what really matters.

If your nuts that lay at the bottom of the trans move forward, they will go in the pto gears. You need to take them off. As far asputting the nut on, It ismuch easier if you have the forks removed. Otherwise, you can use a rag (like an old tee shirt),to fill the void around the nut, and not loosing it. I have done that on a 4240, and it worked.
