135 Hydraulic problems and questions.

Hey, My father in law has a 135 with some issues. It is a great little tractor but something is not right with the 3 point and hydrualics. I have searched around here and found some suggestions as to what may be going on but I figured I would post anyways.

The tractor has a remote valve plumbed into it and mounted on the fender with a control lever. Its just a simple open center valve with 2 functions. There is also a ball valve on the inlet side so i guess as to shut flow to the valve off. The 3 point on this tractor does not work with the control levers. It does however go up instantly when the ball valve to the control valve is closed and it goes back down when the valve is opened. My father in law is using it this way to bush hog. I am a heavy equipment mechanic for a living and I know that doing this is not right. Seems to be when he is closing the ball valve the hyd system is dead heading as the transmission is getting very hot while running it. Im afraid that by closing that valve is causing the oil to go directly to the relief valve. The hyd pump is obviously doing its job so why does the 3 point not work? Is there possibly a stuck valve somewhere in the system? I'm afraid that eventually something major is going to go wrong with this tractor if they keep abusing it this way. The tractor has 7000+ hrs on the original working tach and runs great. I would like to make the rest of it right. Thanks

Hi Dick,
If I have read your message correctly it appears that the flow from the hydraulic pump is being taken to your tap and valve from one of the pressure outlets on the front of the hydraulic cover. These points are connected to the internal lift cylinder. It would appear that the quadrant levers are stuck or a failure has occurred putting the Position Control lever in the Constant Pumping position. So it appears that you have a constant flow of oil coming from the pump and being sent to your fender tap and valve and presumably returned to the casing. By closing the tap, oil is diverted into the internal lift cylinder. When the 3-pt has raised the relief valve will blow because the pump cannot be placed into neutral. Possible causes are the pump control valve seized in the CP position, bent or broken lift cover internal linkage or a broken oscillator which effectively causes the control valve to not move. Its far from a good situation and should be rectified asap.

David, Thanks for the reply. Yes the hydraulic remote is tapped into the cover under the seat. I might mention that 4 years ago when i started using this tractor the 3 point worked but was weak. It would barely lift a 3 point blade but now I get nothing out of it. What would be the best thing to check first?
