1959 TO35 Hydraulic pump upgrade.

I have the new style pump without a filter but the price to replace was pretty cheap and I wanted the filter so I bought the new pump.

It is identical aside from the filter and the filter housing. I'm having no luck getting it in though.

Do I need to remove the filter first to get it in or am I just not hitting the sweet spot?

I have had no luck finding a video of anyone installing one with the filter. Even the videos I found without a filter being removed or installed cut it out as they are having a hard time even with the non filter one.

I can remove and install the non filter in a minute. I assume the people in the videos lack the arm/hand strength to do it easily. With the filtered pump though it doesn't have room.

I'm going to remove the filter and give it a try today but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I did the lift pump, new piston/rings, and some other work after I got off work but the pump didn't go in easily and after 15 minutes I figured it was time to man the grill and the beer wasn't drinking itself.

This is my first tractor and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm missing something simple. I fixed the original pump(one of the clips holding the valve had half popped out and allowed the valve to pop up) but I'd like to use the new one.

Any advice?

On the Top Right of this page ..Enter.... 1956 TO-35 Hydraulic Pump Conversion in the Search ....Possibly the link I have supplied shall take you to the conversation..

Then on the Top Right of this page ...Enter... TO-35 hydraulic pump upgrade in the Search. Read the information.

There is a lot to the PUMP UPGRADE....eg. Top LIFT Cover of your tractor is most likely NOT the heavier /thicker cover?

New pump PSI is higher that the original pump...
Be sure you have all the facts before you do a pump upgrade
Your Tractor,your $$$$$$'s,

The pumps are identical aside from the filter. I read that thread about 10 times over the past month. I saw other threads where they compared the different pumps and talked about not having pressure relief valves that were 2000psi that would fit into the new pump.

I have the 3" lift pump but it was before the larger studs for the lift pump(1/2 instead of 9/16). The pressure relief valves looked the same(they are both long). I read and took from it that the 3" lift pump meant it was the higher pressure. This is a 1959 MF TO35 Deluxe.

My understanding was the old style pumps looks drastically different, the pressure relief was smaller, and the valves weren't held in by c clips.

It isn't impossible this wasn't the original pump. Someone had definitely disassembled it at some point or at least tried to stop a leak at the pins that held the pump. The cover was definitely removed too but I'm not an expert on what it should look like by any means.

I was referring to the upgrade being new and having the filter, not to the newer style.

Am I wrong in this?

This is the pump I removed.

My 1963 Tractor is a MF 35 X. I had the Transmission removed ...Sooooo I installed the new pump with no difficulty.
What is the WIDTH of the mounting PADS on the old oil pump compared to the WIDTH of the mounting PADS on the new Oil Pump? This is the location on the PUMPS that the DOWELS enter to maintain alignments.

It will go in. Just got to keep trying. I use a hay twine around it so I can move it around. When it fits then just pull twine out. Just not enough room for my big hands.

I ended up getting it in. It took me all of a few seconds when I did it right. I'm a big guy so I can almost do it one handed once I figured out how to come at it. I was misremembering how it came out. I made a little video that I'm going to put on YouTube for the next newbie who has never worked on a tractor and needs to see how it goes in. I won't forget that again.
