1965 F-250 Daily Driver

Hello,
Here is my old Ford. It makes 1,200 mile round trips between Texas and New Mexico. Not crazy about the 4.10 and non overdrive 4 speed on the freeway but it does the job getting a load moving. Crossing the desert these last three summers has me wondering why I still have all the parts to add air conditioning sitting on the shelf. I may get around to it some day. Depending on how heavy the load the 352 gets between 6.7 to 11 mpg at 65 mph. Haven't ran through a full tank in several years without pulling a trailer at some point.
Thank's for looking

Nice truck - I have a 1972 F-250 I use mostly on
the farm, non-road use.

Question: Where did you get the air cleaner....did
you run the two hoses to the grill or are they
OEM.

hank's for the complements. The air cleaner assembly is off a 1974 440 Dodge motorhome I hauled off. Those hoses are the air conditioning ducts from it. I kept the Thermoquad off the 440 but am running a 1977 Quadrajet at the moment.

I also have done away with the deadhead pressure regulator and filter rigged up on the front of the left head. Now it has M6676 Carter and 3/8" fuel lines. The LMC gas tank had a restriction at the flair so I had the gas tank opened up to 7/16" outlet. The Carter pump is for a F-600 with a 391. It has 3/8" in/out and a screw on filter.

Looking for opinions on the pros/cons of either, please? Also, what is the load capacity & towing capacity of each? I can only seem to find conflicting information. Is the Camper Special much different to standard, or is it mostly rear suspension differences? Any major benefits of manual vs auto, etc? I've got a '66 Mustang now with the C4 box, so believe the C6 is much the same sort of thing. Are there any particular areas to look out for when looking at vehicles? Many thanks in advance
As far as towing capacity believe it or not a couple of years ago (2018 or so) I looked up a new F-250. The 1965 had the same legal towing on the door as the new one did. The newer truck's GVW was much higher but the weight legally added to either was identical. My 65 has a GVW of 7,800 or 7,900 a newer F-250 will be in the 11,000 to 12,000 GVW range. As for the Camper Special I don't know too much about. From underneath they look like they have the same springs and brakes as the regular F-250. Some of the Camper Specials had the axle moved back and a different bed to accommodate the wheels. Don't know when that started, I've only seen a couple of Dent Side Ford's like that.

As soon as I saw that picture I knew that was a big block Mopar air cleaner.

That's a real nice old Ford.

Finally got around to swapping the FE for a 1965 430 MEL. With the taller 1959 MEL intake the MOPAR air cleaner sits ½" below the cab lip. It was all nice clean and black for a while. The blue water pump is an OEM core I rebuilt. The new unused aftermarket pump started leaking right after it's first installation.

As reference to the MEL size, The FE had a 1" adapter and a 1" spacer under the Quadrajet. The 65 Lincoln Carter has the factory 65 5/16" spacer on top of a taller 1959 (58-60) 4 barrel intake.

Great vid. We might get some good ideas there for the incoming '67 F-250 project. Been sitting for about a year so might be full of dust and probably rodent nests. Gonna fetch the trailer this weekend once we mount the new tires and dually wheels on the F-350 Friday.

An update:
Just completed my last load moving back to Texas. Around trip 25 to 27 for the truck and 5th for the 430 MEL. Running all stock 1965 Lincoln 430 it gets 10.5 mpg empty (4800lbs) with a 3.73 Dana 70 and without overdrive. This last load was probably the heaviest I have pulled with this engine. The trailer weighs 3400lbs empty. Loaded with the 6 cylinder Funk, Sherman Power Digger, Blackhawk dozer blade, home made dump trailer and around 1200lbs of household and shop goodies the old truck got an average of 7.7 mpg @ 65mph.

EDIT: False, I forgot to mention the 65 MEL modifications. 1974 Dodge 440 air cleaner, taller 1958-59 MEL intake manifold and 1958-1960 Edsel exhaust manifolds. Springs are weak from years of hauling a welder. Had some new $1,6XX springs made up for this last load. When I installed them they turned out to lower the truck 1¼", so went back with the originals. For now anyway. I'll post when I find a shop that has the original specs.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Way cool truck and I really like the Funk 8N with neat equipment. Looks like the diggers seen some work in the last five years.

The digger arms patchwork broke last time I used the hoe. Spent $16 today pressure washing the gunk off. I spent 30 hours or so with the dozer blade recutting a couple of properties flooded in the 2024 flood in Roswell, N.M. Some front wheel weights would have been nice to have.
