3000 Clutch Pedal

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any responses, never posted in a forum before, but this is my first time diving into splitting a tractor. I was brush hogging with our 1973 Ford 3000 and hit a stump buried in wild roses that I think hit the linkage arm, the pedal was the either up, or down, no return and no action at all. After perusing all the forums similar on here I knew it had to be splint, and was expecting to find either a broken return spring, or a broken bolt in the throw out bearing Y, no such luck, and nothing else sticking out glaringly. After looking into the clutch itself, it seems that it is a dual stage, and the clutch rod only has one hole as discussed in the forums, so know that needs updated, my questions are, could the pressure plate break that abruptly, is the rod possibly too bent, weak to properly engage the clutch? Thinking about just biting the bullet and getting the entire kit, but if I'm overlooking something simple, that would be ideal. Thanks again.

Hello Bbeckett, welcome to YT! Did you spring/bend the cross shaft 10 in the linked diagram? Does it turn freely? Is there wood residue on the linkage any where that indicates it had been struck?

the pedal was the either up, or down, no return and no action at all.
What does this mean, there is no resistance on the pedal it moved freely? What was the action of the machine as far as movement, did it go in gear and not move… or did it just grind and not go in gear?
What is the PTO doing? Did it stop driving/turning?

Hi there, thanks for responding. The cross shaft appears to be fine, it turns freely, when I take off the Y in can turn it freely, I can pull it in and out without any sort of resistance. There was wood residue on the exterior where the rod bolts to the linkage Rod.

The clutch pedal, once pressed beyond the resistance spring it falls to the "floor" and stays down, it has to be manually returned to the up position. The PTO was operational and didn't skip a beat, would still operate if I engaged it before starting it. I can get it shifted into any gear, however I cannot get it into hi or low range, or visa-versa. Can get it into hi or low, however it grinds trying to get into gear.

To clarify.

Do you have the tractor split at this time?

Are you calling the throwout bearing fork (item key# 15 in the diagram used red linked), the Y? The parts book can provide proper names of parts to avoid confusion.

Was the bolt/pin that secures #15 to the shaft still intact?

If you have the tractor split, post a picture of the clutch. If still on the flywheel, that is fine.

Hi Jim, sorry for causing any confusion, caused. Yes, that is the fork that I am referring to. I did remove the bolt/nut that secures the fork to the shaft, it was my hope that the bolt had sheared but is fine. I've posted pictures and a couple videos, I know the clutch rod is disconnected but this is the same action I had when everything was still together. For reference as to what I'm trying to describe. There was also what appeared to be a brass 1/2" freeze plug type thing in the housing when I split the tractor. Seemed out of place. Pictures and videos are attached. Thanks again!

My guess is the plug came out of the nose of the/a starter. Did you pull the clutch off of the flywheel? Did you see anything? If you pull it off I believe you will need an alignment tool. Need more photos of the pedal, linkage throw out bearing and fork and cross shaft if you want more help. Usually only about 10 seconds of video is all you can post. Otherwise you have to place the video on another service like YouTube and link it here.
