There is a 335 on auction that piqued my attention. It has what appears to be a retrofit 3pt on it.
Could the 335 be ordered bare back?
If so how common might this be?
The fitment seems crude, but refined enough that I would guess it’s blacksmith shop design.

I never saw an R with a 'Hitchor' 3 point, but I wonder if that uses some parts of one. I think the Hitchor used round tube or bar for the upper rock shaft. There also looks like U-joint parts at the top of the lift links. (But a lot can happen in the last 70 years.)

I don't see the lift cylinder on the Tel-0-Flo and it is missing the rock shaft housing too. It does seem to be using one set of auxiliary ports to work the rock shaft cylinder. Also my 335 has 3 levers instead of two.

Definately not like my '58 335.

It looks to have the regular MM dual hydraulic reservoir, which was common on tractors without the 3 point. You are correct, that is an add on. I am trying to place where I have seen that top "U" shaped bracket. A old DC or SC Case tractor comes to mind. That "U" shaped bracket I believe was used for their cultivator lift. Where the top link is connected looks like the drawbar support from the same Case tractor. If you look for pictures of a Case DC or SC I bet you will find similarities of the parts.
Nicely done job on it though.

Here is a picture off of the internet of the parts I was referring to: View attachment 105937

I had the same thought on seeing that “U” frame before. Something about it looks familiar. Thanks for the insight.
What is the likelihood that this 335 was bareback out if Hopkins or do you think this transplant was due to original parts failure?

It more than likely just came with the standard hydraulic reservoir with dual hydraulics, which has no 3 point. I have seen 445s that way as well as 5 Stars. I know of a couple of 445s that didn't come with any hydraulics, which included no power steering. They could come without any hydraulics or pto but I think that happened more on the Jet Star models than the 335s.
I think someone just wanted a 3 point and made one. That happened quite often back then.

Go on ebay there is a 335 on there with the normal 3 pth you can compare them.

I spent some time on the university of Google and did the comparative shopping through many auction and information sites. You are correct that most all have the standard MM 3pt configuration.
Our friend Squatch has been into the hydraulics on X231 the past 2 weeks which was the forerunner to the 445. I’ve even reached out to him.
I’ve reached out to local aficionado on the matter to only speculation of a Hitchor design which I doubt it is.
I have not called cousins Glenn and Lois in Verona on the matter because they were in church.
Alan K on YT seems to have the evidence that I couldn’t put my finger on and confirmed some speculation and the fact that a 335 could be had bare back from Hopkins in those years.

I believe Alan is correct. The hitchor unit was for the older R and Z series. Some industrial tractors did not have hydraulic or 3pth. But if it works OK I don't see an issue.

The MM "Hitchor" was just for the later model Rs I believe. This is what they look like. I am betting what is fabricated on the one you mentioned is from a Case tractor.
