495 in shop, customer says trans oil coming out dipstick. Drained all oil, changed hyd filter and filled to proper level. Dipstick shows over fill after running, seems to not allow oil from trans to rear end/final drives? Thanks, john

The 74 series needs to run for a bit then check oil level. Probably the same for those or the dipstick has been changed to a different length. If you just changed the oil and didn't run it it might be still in the one section for the most part. It does take a bit of time to run through bearings unless there are holes in the casting for oil flow. I would think there are some for that. Did you fill it by the correct amount of oil or by the stick? Then the system will also take some if it was drained though I doubt most of it was even Altered by the change.

@caterpillar guy is correct, if it is gear drive, then with tractor on level surface run engine for 3 Minutes @ 1600 RPM, then shut off and check dipstick oil level within the hash marks, can be overfilled by about 5 gal if a loader is on the tractor.

See photo below for IH 74,84 and early 85 series tractors, late 85 and 95 are very similar except when T/A or Fast Rev option installed the T/A or Fast Rev pump was eliminate and a hydraulic line ran from the MCV to the valve that controlled the T/A or Fast Rev. Transfer pump is supposed to keep the hydraulic fluid level between the chambers maintained and spray lube the diff. Does the PS, PTO work correctly as if one of the springs in the MCV are broken then the oil can go to the Oil Cooler Bypass and not through the oil cooler.
