That adapter is for carbureted engines. The description says nothing about the Diesel engines.

Other than being a bit messy with the element filter I don't see the big deal of spin- ons. Just swap out the element and wash the can out. Not that big of a deal. Filters are getting expensive no matter which type they are. Now if the filter is no longer offered and the only option is to go to a spin-on filter then I guess it would be to make the change.

Kit is for certain gas engines, the O.P. stated he had a diesel

I can't get the filter housing to no leak. Cleaned the housing and the seal groove multiple times, still leaks. Also have put in multiple seals.

Look or feel for a nick in the edge of the canister or check better for something in the bottom of the groove under your new gasket. I have not had a problem with them leaking on our H,MD,806,856. These all have either or both element filter for oil and fuel . I did have a problem with the 806once but it had a bent spot on the top of the can and leaked by the top under the bolt head gasket. Might try not tightening it quite so tight also. I have had them leak and back them off just enough to see the bolt turn and it solved the problem. IF the can wants to turn with the bolt hold it with your hand or oil the gasket in the groove. It almost has to be a nick in the can or a sharp spot causing a seal issue. Those castiron bases don't warp much since they are pretty heavy.

Are you absolutely sure there isn't an old o-ring in the bottom of the groove? The groove is pretty deep and sometimes it isn't obvious there is still an o-ring in there.

Take a pic and poke around the groove for the old gasket. I have seen as many as three in one canister groove. You will know when you hit the bottom.
