I recently degreased and pressure washed my 560D to get ready to paint this winter and noticed the head was yellow under the red paint ?!? The. Lock appears to be the factory 282 block. Is there a different head that could go on that block or any ideas why it might be yellow ?

color as said. but what's with them ugly washers on the injector bolts. them bolts are not your ordinary bolt, as they are 2 3/4 inches long. and special care must be taken not to install 3 inch bolts and punch out the lower portion into the water jacket. then you will have antifreeze leaking past the threads. i always make sure them threads are clean and blown out and use never seize on the bolts and torque them. to make the sealing rings seal properly to prevent compression leaks.

the 60 to 62 TD-9 was the same, earlier were the 4 cylinder gas/diesel. Jim
In 59 the TD9 92 series came out with a Tubocharged 282. The TD9-B came out in 62 and was made through 73. If it had a power shift transmission it was a naturally aspirated 282. If it was direct drive it was turbocharged, I had an early 92 series with a Drott loader and a TD9-B with a direct drive years ago. Still running a TD9-H Dresser. It has a Cummins 4BT type engine.

In addition to what the other folks posted, it MAY simply have been a replacement cylinder head that was primered.

The yellow layer could have been the base coat & red painted over it at the factory. I've seen that several times. The most recent example is the gear case on my 45 baler.

Yea not sure on the washers. Just bought the thing a few months ago. Getting ready to pull the head. Only 100psi compression on that cylinder gunna see what’s going on
