580C Case Backhoe fuel problem

My equipment runs for couple minutes than just quits. I cleaned the fuel filter and blew the lines. I also cleaned the glass ball line. I need help or do I just change the pump. Thanks Gilbert

Gilbert, what do you do to get it to restart? Does your 580 have the 207 case engine or a cummins engine? If you let it set for awhile and it re-starts with the 207 case engine you could have a plugged return fuel line, take the line off where it comes off the top cover on the fuel pump and see if it keeps running. The govenor weight retainer ring inside the pump can break up and plug the return line, if it does it builds excessive internal pressure inside the transfer pump. Also, have you drained your tank and checked for stuff in the outlet, what kind of fuel flow do you get right out of the tank, should be a good solid flow. I don't remember if that unit has a lift/transfer pump to supply fuel to the main injection pump, if it does and if it has a dome style cover on it with a little retaining bolt, you sometimes will find a very fine screen under it that never gets cleaned. These are only ideas, I'm sure others may have a better idea, all I know is ALWAYS do the simple stuff first!

Don't know where you live, but if it's cold enough, you may get enough moisture in the oil-filled air filter so that the water turns to ice thereby restricting airflow into the cyliders. This happens to my 580 CK. I don't know if the 580C has a similar set up. When this happens, I empty what I can from the air filter and let it thaw, refill and off we go to the races.
