8000 Ford hydraulic diagnosis

Howdy folks, question for yawl in the know. My '68 8000 developed a LOUD squalling while running a haybine, the PTO kept running and the lower links still work but the remotes don't. I've read the threads I could find but I'm not sure if it's the pump behind the plate with the canister filter on it or the more forward pump which I don't even know where it's located but was told it requires a split. I'm assuming it's not the PTO shaft being broken/spun since two of the three hydro's still work. The noise is loud by the motor but loudest by the pump cover, it does quiet down a little when the PTO is engaged.
Any thoughts will help me decide whether to haul it to a shop for getting split(s) or having mechanic come here to work on it, if I can find one.
Thanks.

Will the PTO drive a heavy load? In other words, could you kill the engine with it? If it does/can, then the PTO live drive shaft and splines are OK.

If you're not sure, suspect stripped PTO drive shaft splines grabbing just good enough to give you PTO pressure.

Is there such a thing as a PTO load tester? If so the local shop may loan it out. A full round baler would be the hardest I could hit it with and it worries me to run it as bad as the noise is. I'll call this plan A, thanks.
