Father in law is wanting to look at a nice 8700. Has an M&W turbo on it. What all would have been included with this? These engines have piston oil squirters or should they have been added? Anything to look for? Thanks!!

I seriously doubt a M&W turbo kit would have included any kind of provisions for piston oil cooling. There's no way to put oil squirt nozzles in it, and converting it to 9700 style rods and pistons would have been cost prohibitive.

Assuming the only thing that was changed was the turbo, I hope it wasn't turned up to 9700 power levels. Generally the M&W turbo kits cautioned against turning up the fuel too far.

The only way that I can think of to tell if it has been turned up to 150 HP and worked hard would be to look at the rod bearings for discoloration. It is not likely though that the owner would be willing to drop the an for your FIL to have a look. Otherwise the only way to tell if "nice" is pretty much all over or has it just been repainted to hide problems.

No good reason I can think of for the rod bearings to discolor just because it has been turned up.
