8N front "PTO" crankshaft adapter

Hi guys , I am new to the tractor world , after decades of wanting a tractor I finally was able to buy my very first, a Ford 8N.
I am trying to install a loader, I am working on finding parts for a rear mountes pto hydraulic pump, however, as I do more and more "research" I came to find front mounted hydraulic pumps are also available, I was told that they connect to the front of the tractor, there should be a hole, and the pump rod connects to the crankshaft pulley, my tractor does indeed have the hole but the crankshaft pulley has a single big bolt , what i need is a 3/4 female spline "adapter" to power the rod that connects to the front mounted hydraulic pump.
Well long story short, what is that part called, what is the part number and where can I buy one?
Sorry for the long post , thank you

Are there 4 tapped holes in the pulley on your tractor? I think they are 1/4 inch but may be 5/16, a splined adapter plate bolts to the front of the pulley to drive the pump for the loader, I have a complete loader with hyd. dump bucket and the the pump and adapter and all the brackets, that I just removed from an 8N if you're interested, I live in Northern Ill. $100.00

Beware that if you put a loader on your little agile 8N, it will turn it into a slow lumbering water buffalo like thing. You'll also need to put a set of small truck tires on the front. Might need more weight on the rear or at least load the rear tires. I have a loader on my 8N but there are also wheel weights on it plus the tires are loaded. I very seldom use the loader any more since I have an MF202 industrial tractor with a loader.

But, I have been using that 8N for like over 20 years with no problems. It's loader also works off a front mounted pump. If you do get a loader for your 8N, I advise you to put on a "new" fan belt before you install the loader. It's a PIA to put on a new belt once that loader is on your tractor.

There are no holes

Water buffalo 🤣 I don't think this thing can get any slower as it is, merely a toy to move dirt to level my yard, speed won't be a problem, I will look into your other suggestions, thank you

I also have an MF202 with a loader on it. I use both tractors on my 5 acres and also to maintain the dirt roads leading to my place. As far as speed, I don't think I have driven either on over second gear. I have no need for any speed.

One more thing to consider if you put a loader on your 8N. Be very careful driving it with a bucket full of dirt. You don't want to get the front end bouncing over any small bumps or you may wind up with it sitting down on it's oil pan. The 8N was just not designed for a loader. But, I was very careful with it all those years before I got the MF202. It will serve you if you're careful with it.

This is extremely useful information for the future, I wouldn't have considered the weight of a loaded bucket to be a problem

As I said, I used my 8N with the FEL for around 20 years with no problem. I gave you all that info not to scare you out of getting a loader but to tell you to be careful with it. A bucket full of wet dirt is pretty heavy. That's why I recommended the small truck tires on the front. As I said, the 8N was not designed for a loader. Just consider this.

I've been using the loader on my 8N for over 20 with no actual problems.

David,

I have several 8-Ns with loaders on them. One is a 1949 (I bought from family) that had a loader on it from day one. It was used to clean manure from the dairy barn. It still has the loader on it with the standard tractor tires on the front, still in use. Growing up we had a loader on our 8-N used to load manure. When the time came to plow in the spring, the loader came off and the tractor was used to plant/harvest crops etc., on our 80 acre farm. Yes, you will want weight on the rear of the tractor, we used ballast in the rear tires. Yes, it will steer harder with the loader on it. It helps to keep the steering points lubricated and the front tires aired up. It has been my experience that the 8-N is strong enough to handle loads from a loader. Enjoy your 8-N.
