9n starting

I have a 1941 9n. If tractor sits for a few weeks it takes forever to start. If it only sits a few days it fires right up. All 6 volt original with everything rebuilt or restored in the last year. Tractor runs great after started just hard to start after sitting. Any thoughts.

Rebuilt as in the engine also???? If not then low compression and sticking ring can cause that. Maybe put a bit of ATF in the cylinder the next time your going to park it for a while and see if that helps

Engine has been rebuilt. And it turns over fine but I'll put a charger on it next week before I try and start it to see if it makes a difference.

I have a 43 2N and when ever not in use I keep a battery charger/maintainer on it. Starts much better this way.

While it shouldn't be happening with a rebuilt engine,
I'm with Old. after the oil drains away and the cylinder walls
are 'dry', sounds like low compression.

couple tricks with old junk, after making sure your ignition is tip-top.
crank it a few revolutions, then pause 10 seconds, then hit it again.
tired off brands, I hand crank a revolution with the key off, then hit the starter.
your hand sealing the air cleaner pipe for a second while cranking
will get a low compression engine to fire.
go 12v, or if it's been sitting, properly jump it with 12v to spin it faster.
put a draincock on the carb bowl. turn your gas on and let it drain a few seconds before the start attempt to clear old gas and water/debris.

all this shouldn't be needed with a fresh rebuild.
go thru your ignition and carb again. something isn't right somewhere.

check spark first.

if spark is good, see if it kicks on a whiff of start fluid.

if so, double check fuel flow.

while a compresssion check never hurts, check the other 2 first.
