adjust clutch on d5 cat model 94j

Is it easy to describe the clutch adjustment process on my d5. clutch will not engage sometimes. Always will in reverse but only sometimes in forward. Becomes very hard. Wont "knuckle in".

Take off cover, unlock spider, turn untill lever takes 30 Lb force to go over center and lock up again.

The manual says to set at 50 to 55 lbs for a D5 with a wet clutch. Many of you mechanics suggest the D5 clutch lock-over force to be 30 or 35 lbs. which setting should it be and please explain why…. Thanks in advance!!!
