Anyone have a Vevor Mag Drill?

Well the stars aligned, and I ordered one from Home Depot, because

1. I get 10% military discount,
2. I got a HD gift card for my birthday
3. They'll ship it right to the house for "free".

Wound up less than $70 out of pocket. Rental on one is $87 a day so that didn't take a lot of figuring. Of course I will have to order the cutters but I've wanted some of them for use in the drill press anyway.
Sometimes when your done you can sell it and move on. I agree rental prices are scary, ok if you need expensive item for one day.

Good luck with it. Let us know how it works out.

We have had good luck with these: (The Local Welding Supply caries this brand)

Edit: make sure you get the pilot. It matches the center hole in the cutter. 1/4, 5/16, ect.
We use Hawg Wash or Hougen cutting fluid. For 100 holes, Dawn Soap and water would be fine. It's more of a coolant. If the slug gets stuck in the cutter, it's getting too hot.

I have a couple of projects coming up where a magnetic drill would be VERY handy. Won't get used a lot, but will save a lot of hassle wthen it is used.

Reviews of the various Vevor drills are mixed with the bulk of them being luke-warm.

Much as I'd like to have a high-end unit, I need to keep the price under $500 and preferably under $400.

Suggestions?
A picture of "Old Faithful" and associated cutters. New in about 1998. I've drilled a lot of holes with it, in weather that would make the Postman blush....

Before mag drills we used something they called an old man. One to hold the drill and one to control the leverView attachment 91445
I'm thinking we referred to that as a dead man to tie something off to and hold it so it doesn't move. We would sometimes bury a dead man to tie off to. Was a driller on a double derrick guy wire rig for a while and we buried the deadmen to tie the guy wires to.

I'm the old man as you youngins would call me and that drill would have broken my wrists after a while.

Farming Fixing and Fabricating has had very good luck with Vevor Mag Drills. I don't have a Mag Drill, but have yet to be disappointed with a Vevor product and I have several.

Came yesterday, very quick service from Home Depot's "deliver to home" option.

Seems solid, only complaint is that the Jacobs-style chuck for twist drills is junk. But I figured that. If I find myself using twist drills a lot (and I likely will) I'll spend some bucks on a better chuck.

Of course, like most machines, it's the tooling that gets ya. Ordered a cheapo set of annular cutters until I find out which ones I'll use mostly and then order good ones individually.

Also ordered a Morse Taper to Weldon adapter so I can use the annular cutters in my drill press. The cutters use a 3/4" Weldon shank, basically a 3/4 inch shaft with two flats for set screws.

What model did you end up getting?

Reverse will get you out of some jams, as well as backing out the taps you might use to thread (or chase threaded) holes. Did about 20, 3/8-14 in some 1/2" steel. Worked great. zuhnc

I am coming to this thread late but we have been selling Evolution brand for several years. The last one I looked at was a 1/3 of the big name brands. THey make saws, drills, all have been good metal working products. The company is out of Davenport IA,yes all built in china I did get an address.https://store.evolutionpowertools.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqR6Lx3_kkA-Q__ucJs50bOd2iEAVJyVjWNTs9gUTKHGfLvnb0Y

I have been fighting the urge to get an Evolution cold-cut chop saw. I have some money owed me. If/when it shoes up, I suspect I'll lose that fight, particularly given my recent experience cutting gussets out of some 3/8ths plate with my Milwaukee abrasive saw. Works fine, but time consuming, noisy and dirty.

Cutting 3/8" plate is relatively easy with a metal-cutting blade (Diablo is my go-to) in your skilsaw. The chips stay relatively close, with a good saw, but it is noisy, as well. Ear and face protection is a must. I have done 1/8" and 1/4" plate with mine, as well some 3/4" rounds.

One of the guys at work builds plate boats on the side. He bought a cold cut Evaluation hand saw(skill saw) several years ago. I needed a fork cut out for my front end loader. Two cuts out of plate steel with that hand saw, worked great.
