Canister oil filter for 180

I am changing oil in my 180 I purchased a 1183 oil filter recommended by napa, when I dropped the filter canister it contained a 1188, I pretty sure that is not the correct filter. So my question is, do these pictures look right with the 1183 filter in the canister there is so little room around the outside of the filter, I wonder if the diameter of the filter is too large, length seems right, when you put pressure on the filter the it gets flush with the top of the canister

You have a Perkins diesel don't you? In the MF 180 parts book I find a MF # of 1882916M91 for the diesel engine oil filter. That directly crosses to a WIX 51157 or NAPA 1157. A note, in the MF parts book refers to ordering the MF #835995M93 kit. I believe from Massey that may have been a pack of three filters and gaskets. 835995M93 crosses to the WIX 51183 or NAPA 1183 and is the same filter used for the Perkins gas engine oil filter.

The 1188 filter is shown as used in primarily the 3 cylinder Perkins engines.

From what I have found the 1183 should be ok for your application.

Thanks I think maybe I need the 1157
Either should work. Both the 1882916M91 (NAPA 1157) and the 835995M91 (NAPA 1183) are shown in the MF180 parts book page for the Perkins diesel lube system. Looking at application in the NAPA catalog the 1183 is shown for the MF 180 with the 4.236 Perkins. The 1157 does not show the MF180 in its application list. I believe they showed the 1882916M91 as an individual element, the 835995M91 was actually a three pack from MF. Yes, the dimensions are different however the critical one to me is length and the 1157 is only .100" longer than the 1183 so end sealing should not be an issue. The 1181 you took out was too short to give proper end sealing. As long as there is clearance around the filter in the housing that should be ok.

Your call, just relaying what the parts books show.

Thanks I'm going to install the 1183 , I assume the oil pressure is measured after the filter so if my oil pressure is normal I should be ok. Does that seem right?
This goes in circles. Doing some more digging and checking pricing through an AGCO dealer, when I try to check an actual price on the 835995M93 (1183) they now substitute the 1882916M91 (1157) (6 pack for $114.02/$19.0& each). They are doing this for both, the diesel and gas, Perkins engines used in the 180. I still believe you will be fine using the 1183, as long as it has some clearance and is not jammed tight around the OD for now. Going forward you may want to change to the 1157.

Yep , oil pressure was 50 so I think I'm good , I will have to watch it probably would not hurt to run it a few hours and then change it. I would guess there was no filtering with that 1188 in there
