Case DC Differential Bearings

As with any good project the more you open up, the more problems you find. Started just replacing the brake seals so I could get good brakes and found the classic bearing race pitting from water sitting in the bottom of the cup/cone. There does not seem to be much info out there regarding changing these bearings so I figured I would document this project here for others who may be looking for info.

Hoping that I can sneak a puller through the housing and remove the cone bearing, otherwise I will need to take the drive chain loose to get the differential shaft out, which I am sure will snow ball into an even bigger project.

When I did my dc all the granny bearings etc were bad not a site I want to see again.
What would be considered the granny bearings? After inspecting the actual bearing on the differential shaft it looks ok, and talking to Mr. Saeli I am just going to install a new race in the carrier plate and put it back together. My bearing guy that I use at work is supposed to be bringing me one this morning.

I don't mind tearing one completely apart but right now I do not really have the space to do so or the time, and I think replacing just the cup race will get me a lot of years out of it before it would ever give trouble again. I will update once I have this side back together and the other side tore down.

Transmission bearings and races. Previous post was a type error. My dc was rough and needed lots of work (still does) but it was a 53/54 foot clutch, live power. I am able to use it.

Gotcha. I have a feeling there are some more in there that need attention, it makes some growling sounds at times, I know they are not the quietest things on the planet though.

I also have a '53 Foot clutch DC. I am about to get it operational again. Trying to get this '50 and the '53 ready for a tractor ride/parade in August.

I don't know if its just mine but Transmision is very noisy but not like broken gears like a wining or howl sound. I tore it all down to the case so lots of bearings and races. Not as happy with that tractor as I thought I would be. Still have stuff to do to it. It was a basket case when i got it.

Update on this project:

So after talking with Mr. Saeli and assessing the condition of the bearing cone, I have decided to just replace the bearing race/cup and put it back together. If I ever open the transmission up I will re inspect and consider pulling the diff shafts and replacing everything as a new set.

Also you can use a Doorman 555-069 freeze plug as the welch on the end of the diff shafts

Tore the other side down and of course it looked the same way, waiting on another race to come in.
