Changed oil —-> won’t start

I recently changed the oil on my Case 430 TLB and now I can’t get it to start. I checked the battery and that’s not it. I tried ether going into the air filter (which helped it start when needed before the oil change) and still won’t turn over. Sometimes it is SOO close to starting, but just won’t.

There was not much oil to drain out and it was definitely black. Also, there was no oil in the bottom cup of the air filter like the manual says it should have. I corrected these issues, but it started fine with an occasional blast of ether before!!!

It did start eventually after hours of trying (jump starting battery, bypassing battery jumping the starter, trying both 10 ga and 6 ga jumper cables, checking connections, replaced a couple wires, etc.), and it ran completely fine without issue. But after a few hours of use it started blowing some white smoke out the bottom of the machine. I shut it off for 30 minutes or so and now it won’t start again.

I can’t imagine it’s an issue with the oil or filter. Any other ideas? Glow plugs??? I did use full synthetic as it was on sale for less than the others, but that shouldn’t be a problem, right?

From the info given I would do a compression test on it. that will at least give you an idea of where to start, white smoke out the breather would indicate compression loss. from your description it sounds like the compression is just on the edge for starting.

Be sure that you didn't overfill the oil bath air cleaner. Doing so will prevent air from reaching engine. No air, no start.
Dollar to a donut , That is what the trouble is ,,.. look at the oil bowl , there should be fill to this level mark ,,, report back please ,,. Let everyone know what you learned ,,. If this were a hot engine ,,.It may have started ,,. and BECOME A RUNAWAY ,,. impossibble HI REVS Wide open til all oil is sucked thru ,,Or threw a rod thru the block !.. ... So You Are LUCKY it did not start

It was a hot engine as I was running it for several hours before it sat for just 30 minutes. And the oil level is right up to the line. Before changing the oil though, there was almost no oil in the air filter cup and it worked fine. So I may try dumping half the oil out and see if it likes that better.

Ok Then , Check Fuel level , If you are less than a couple inches in tank You may have gotten air in the system . Fill the Tank ,2 inches from Top , Open bleed screws on filter If no fuel comes thru , You Could take a air gun and a Clean towel to make a seal on the tank and Force air pressure into the tank , That should push fuel thru ,,. If not Chek the feed lines coming from tank by Blowing back from filter to tank and check for reasonable flow.. If there is poor flow coming thru filter bleed screw ,, and All Lines to that point are clear and No longer suspect , I would get new filters ... And repeat the bleeding process ,,. fuel will not compress , air If there is air in the lines , With a GOOD Quality wrench or socket It may be necessary to LOOSEN a half TUrn a injector linefrom the injector pump , to allow air from the system ...crank the engine 5-10 seconds to allow air to escape and fuel should be present , Titen the injector line. Crank The engine with throttle wide open . If You get a semblance of firing , You are home free ..Double chek all fittings for leaks and titen . it will take a few minuts once she starts to clear op.
