Correct seat assembly SM Farmall.

Four pictures of two different seat assemblies. I believe one is for a SM and one is for a SWD-9 or 650 but I can't remember which is which. Is the one currently on the SM with the red spring correct for a SM or is the one currently mounted to a 460 correct for a SM?

The first pic would be correct for the late 53 to 54 Super M (stage 2), which is almost the same as the 400/450.
I'll trust you're right then. It is currently on a Stage 2 SM in the pic so that's good, now I just have to rebuild it. Now I think the shock may be too short for this seat. Did they make different length shocks? That's why I thought it have have been off of my old 650. What model is the other assembly in the pics correct for? The one currently on the 460 in the pics.

I don't know if different between the SM/400/450, but, different between H,SH,M and SM, and SM stages.

Part of the base for a stage 2 SM and at least part of the SMTA didn't have the strengthening humps like top picture but the ones with humps are the same size. SM and TA have a cut out at front for battery cable to go in top of box. Hundred series don't have the cut out because cable goes in at bottom of box. But if you have a good hundred series base and need it on a SM the base can be cut or ground to be like a SM so it doesn't pinch battery cable. Other base pictured looks thick for original on a SM or 300 through 450.

It looks like there are two different shocks on Steiner for whatever reason. I measured mine and it's the short one of the two. I want the long one to get the seat up a couple of more inches. Now I think the seat assembly that is currently on my SM was the one from the old 650 I had. They might have had a shorter shock. The one on the 460 belongs on the SM because it doesn't have the humps down the sides according to D Slater.

Shock for a stage 2, SM and SH, SC, 300 to 450 and some others is supposed to be number 351750R93. Seat base that slides and has lower shock mount was 352601R91 and used on C and SC tractors also. Then IH used later ones with changes as replacement numbers for early ones. They started at 355750R11 and then R12. R11 got the humps and R12 the extra lever and cross bolt for lifting the seat adjusting pin. 352601R91 looks the same as one on a 60 series support. Can't tell for sure looking at picture though. Unless seat spring is stouter or longer the seat will go to same height when sitting as before when using longer shock than normal. Regular 460 seat used the same shock as above. 650 used shock 361033R91 and base 355750R12.

OK, thanks. It looks like I have a hundred series seat assembly without the battery cable cutout. I just ordered the correct length shock from Walmart believe it or not for $30.59. Steiner is $48.99.

Not a flame!! and you might be happy as a clam with the shock you ordered. but if it is for a passenger car it may give a substantially harder ride! Jim

Walmart.com is a lot like Amazon or eBay. They front-end for multiple vendors that sell completely separate from Walmart itself. The Walmart seller in this case happens to be "RELIABLE AFTERMARKET PARTS". The same seller also sells through both Amazon and eBay. They have a different price for that part on each site.

Possibly, because Walmart is about the last place you'd expect to find tractor parts.
You'd be surprised what they have for cars, trucks and tractors. I opened up a Walmart+ account a few months ago and am slowly abandoning Amazon for various reasons. I had $38 worth of Walmart cash from buying groceries so used that for my "free" seat shock. No shipping either. I've been trying to make it a habit to search Walmart for almost anything I buy now to at least price compare.
