The tractor on the left has to be one of the rarest tractors in the world--A 1066 that hasn't been made into a puller!!!---yet--Looks good---Tee

Dad had a 1256, neighbor got an early 1066. Both he and Dad were very disappointed in that tractor as Dad talked him into it instead of an Allis Chalmers. Good engine, not as good as the 1256 but the rear end was a big problem. Early 1066's were 115 HP. When the 4430 JD's came out and IH sped the engine up on the 1066 to compete with the 4430's 125hp, both wondered how they were going to keep that together. The neighbors son bought a 1466 a couple years later and found out, he couldn't. I bought a new 4430 with Sound guard cab in the fall of '72. I paid for it plowing for that neighbor, because the 1066 would blow the rear end out plowing and leave him with a 180 AC and a 3 bottom plow. I pulled 6-16" JD 1450, he tried to pull a 5-16" 710 IH plow. The other neighbor that he traded work with had a 856. When it came time to upgrade he went with a 700 Versatile and I lost my plowing job. I did break an axle housing once when a peppermint tub came unhooked and rode up the tire. I was sure glad I had the cab and the seat belt on. The 66 series killed IH sales, and after the 560 mess and IH's good sales of 06 and 56 series tractors, here in the valley. The 86 series were even worse. A lot of the IH grass seed guys just kept farming with their 806's when grass seed prices went down. JD took over the valley, built several new stores, one 8 miles from me. I wanted an 856 IH had on their lot but they wouldn't work with a 16 yr old just getting started. I got a 1970 4020 in 1972 from the JD dealer, traded it for the 4430 and the rest was history. Blessing in disguise. I had a good run with 30 and 40 series JD's with the Powershift and hfwa....James

I'm calling BS on this one. The IH rearend that has been the favorite of tractor pullers for decades because of the power it would
take compared to ANYTHING green regularly broke while moldboard plowing ? Had an IH dealer here who loved to turn tractors
up before letting leave the lot to make competition look bad. Lots of "stock" IH 1066s making 190-220 HP from the day the were
delivered.
