cross hyd valve

I have a cross hyd valve that has a inlet line 4 ports for the hyd cyc's an outlet valve and also a port that says BYD. Can anyone tell me what the byd port is for and how to use it? Thanks Sam

That"s the powwer beyond port . You use it if you want to have hydraulic power to another valve downstream

i admit to guessing, but the only term i can relate to those letters BYD is beyond. can't imagine what it would normally be used for, but the term beyond refers to hydraulic pressure over the bypass set pressure. valves usually have in, return, two ports to ram. some valves have a plug for a single acting cylinder, and the valve must be made for that capability. it usually has something screwed into the spool port under the pipe cap. hope this helps!

So Jerry if it is a power beyond port you would want to plug it off if you didnt want to use it,correct? If you had a hose on it returning it to the resv. it would just keep circulateing the oil back and will reduce your hyd power. Am I understanding this corectly? Thanks for the input

I presume this is and open center valve and you should have four connections on it an input and and outlet to the resevior plus the the 2 lines that run to the cylinder(s) it"s controlling. The power beyond is a fifth port and in this application you don"t use it. If the valve is in neutral the fluid goes through the valve and to the reservior. When you actuate the valve, one side of the cylinder(s) is ported to the reservior and the other to the pump supply, thus moving the cylinder(s). At least that"s how i understand it.

Jerry that was my understanding of the way things worked. The previous owner said he bought it plumbed with the power beyond returning back to the res. When I put the new pump in I am going to plug the BYD port. Thanks Sam

What brand & model tractor? JD 820/830 3cyl tractors had an extra hose to sump when a loader was installed. They were open-center hyd's.

Some valves with the BYD port have a threaded port inside/under the plug. If you plug the inside port it changes the valve to closed center. That is you will develope pump pressure no matter what position the valve is in.
