Cub After Market Carburetor Running Rich

Hello.

I put an aftermarket replacement carburetor on my Cub and it running way to rich. I checked the float level and it is set correctly. I want to either change the main jet or solder and re-drill it. Does anyone know if the main jet from one of these clones is the same as the factory IH carb? Mainly, will old IH jet thread into the new carburetor? Right now the tractor is at the big tractor show so I don't have it in front of me but I would like to know if I can do this.

Thanks

I don't know the applications, but McDonald Carb list four sizes of main jet, 0.031, 0.032, 0.034, 0.038. The C60 was used in many applications. If you have the jet from the old carburetor, it should screw into the new. Use the parts manual for your Cub to find the part number for the main jet. Then use the part number to match the jet size at McDonald Carb.

Which after market carb did you buy? The Kipa brand on Amazon work flawless...... unless you have a dirty gas tank and a poorly working filter. A tiny piece of grit in the needle seat will cause issues. .......try tapping the carb with a hammer handle when it's running rich, see if it helps unstick the float. The other thing to check is the float itself ,sink it in a cup of water, watch for bubbles and after 15-20 minutes check it for water inside. We have used dozens of aftermarket carbs on Cubs and never had any issues. Another thing, how's the timing? Have you ever loosened the distributor and twisted it back and forth? With the tractor running you will hear the sweet spot.

Its not a Kipa, just one of the many Amazon clones. It is in the same price range as the Kipa. The gas tank has been cleaned and lined with POR15. I have had the carb apart several times and the needle and seat are clean. I will try playing with the timing a bit though. I was just curious if the threads would be cut to take the original jet. You never know about stuff from the land of almost right.
