Cub cultivator parts

A guy dropped by yesterday to buy a few parts from us. He had a set of Cub cultivators in his truck. They had these 2 parts cast out of brass???? Never seen such a thing?? They have part numbers cast in, making me think they weren't made by a bored foundry worker?? Does anyone have any information about these brass parts? And doesn't brass seem like a terrible choice for an easily broken part?

You think it is possible a foundry used the old part to mold for the brass part. That would have shown the numbers in the new part. Just a wild guess. Agree it is not the best choice for material in that place of use.

That seems likely.

A lot of these units show substantial wear at the lower pivot. They reach a point where the two bolts (on left in first picture above) can't take the slack out. That pivot being loose is certainly a contributing factor that leads to the part breaking. If making the part out of brass leads to less wear, the idea may not be totally crazy. Or maybe the owner needed to replace those parts and simply had or had access to a brass foundry. Sometimes you just use what you have!
