Custom Powr-Trol Cylinder Lift Issues

Need a little advice from the Custom Powr-Trol experts out there. My 830 seems to have trouble lifting a chisel plow. I tried my 730 on it with the same cylinder and it lifts just fine. The only difference is that the 830 has dual hydraulics and the 730 does not. I have tried shimming up the relief valve in the 830 and that did help, but once the oil gets warm I still have trouble getting it to raise all the way. Should I shim the relief valve a little more or should I be looking elsewhere for my issue? When I shimmed the relief valve I went from about 1100 psi warm to a little over 1200 warm, 1500 psi cold after shimming the valve.

Swap the hydraulic cylinder for one with a larger bore diameter and you'll get more lifting power (of course, at a slower speed).

I already tried swapping the cylinder for a bigger one and that helped, but didn't cure it completely.

The 730 was running about 1800 psi when I checked it. I may try shimming the relief valve on the 830 a little more but I'm not sure how many shims are too many and I don't want to put a band aid on a bullet wound if I should be looking elsewhere for a problem.

By chance did you try both outlets of your 830 dual hydraulic system? I have a Custom Powr-Trol service school publication from October 1956. I was surprised to read that on dual hydraulics the #1 side is set to 1465 +/- 35 psi relief and #2 side set to 1265 +/- 35 psi relief. A single hydraulic valve system has relief set to 1265.
Your 730 has had the pressure set up quite high, but it’s obviously been coping with it, likely for a long time

Brother and I were farming with 820/830 tractors in the late '70's and bought a very heavy Wilbeck off-set disk together. Both had only used lighter weight tandem disks up until then. First time I hooked up the off-set I found out it would not lift it so we had to get a larger, I think 4" cylinder and it worked fine.
