For the month of March, his year's JD calendar features a picture of the 1940's JD model 101 experimental rear engine tractor. I know there was another attempt at this rear engine configuration with an experimental tractor called the XR-80 in about the late 60's or early '70's. It featured a Daihatsu gasoline engine transversely mounted behind the operator. The engine drove a hydraulic pump and the "famous" Deere cam-lobe hydraulic motor was developed for this application to drive the rear wheels. I have it on good authority that there was another attempt by Deere at a rear engine tractor somewhat like the Allis Chalmers Model G in the '50's. Does anybody know anything about that?
