Everything in lawn care items has gone battery

I noticed that late summer when I went to the local big box for a weed wacker. Was buying a battery one anyway but no gas to be seen.

There will always be some demand for the old gas powered equipment, but most people don't want the hassle that goes with it. When merchandise sits on the shelf for too long, retailers stop carrying it. Classic supply and demand scenario.

Most all the lawn care and tree removal business seem to still prefer gas equipment but then they probably don't shop at the big box store for consumer equipment.

Yeah, for those guys that run their 2 cycle stuff every day, gas makes sense. It gets worked most every day, never has a chance to get gummed/plugged or whatever.

Whereas guys like me maybe break out the chainsaw a couple times a year, or the weed whacker one a week. I smile every time I pull the trigger on the Milwaukee battery stuff and it just goes.

Made the switch to 40v Ryobi 3 years ago when we moved to this property. Haven't touched either of my Stihl chainsaws since. Well that's a lie, I did touch them to put in deep storage, now they are not in the way any more.

Every tool as far as weed wackers ,chain saws , hedge clippers ,has gone to a lithium battery. Not one thing is 110 volt or gas power . So I bought a Skil hedge clipper and it goes through the branches like they are not even there .Super sharp
I have an old 110v craftsman 18 inch chainsaw that runs on a 3500w gas generator.
Amazon has a 110v

BLACK+DECKER Electric Chainsaw, 18-Inch, 15-Amp, Corded $94

I do love my dewalt cordless chainsaw and 8 inch B&D pole saw and 8 inch chainsaw, Alligator

I have a 4 stroke weed Wacker. No cordless weed Wackers for me, not enough poop.

Each to their own. Use what works for you. No way will I have a cordless mower. Too much to mow.

NO cordless tillers in my future

Plug in or gas powered, small motors/engines have been a PIA for me. This is one area where I agree that battery powered is the way to go.

If I lived in the city with a little 65x150' lot you can bet I would have a battery powered lawn mower.

I'll tell you what, battery is the only way to go. If our lawn was smaller, I'd have an electric mower for sure. I'm not sure now that when our Allis Chalmers rider needs to be replaced that I won't go electric anyway. The wife bought a battery powered tiller a few years ago. The garden has never been so clean. She loves running that quiet little thing.

My boss will never trade in the 30 year old JD tiller in for a battery one.
She would want me

to repair this jewel.
Nothing runs like a Deere
She would never buy an electric mower.

Got 2 daughters with houses on lots like you describe. Both have battery lawn mowers, one Ryobi and one Craftsman. Both working well for what they do.

That is what literally everyone here who now has battery powered equipment said, until they got battery powered equipment...
True. You can't begin to compare current cordless tools with ones people tried and gave up on ten years ago.

I have two cordless weedeaters and a cordless snow blower that I'll put up against any comparable gas powered unit I ever owned.

You guys with the battery powered stuff are just helping to seal your fate. After seeing what dad has had to deal with on a Milwaukee electric chainsaw You can keep them. Contact have gotten hot enough to melt the plastic housing they go in and now the batteries are hard to get in and out. Has had problems with the connection of the battery to the saw body since new. I'll keep my sthil's.

Know what makes me smile? All the guys on here talking up their battery powered stuff but start a thread on wind and solar and oh boy does that get people going. Where do you think all the battery charging power is supposed to come from?

Electric mowers, etc... Will not cope with harsh environments. Period. Not enough nutzzz.

Long video, but shows what electric won't do in a million years IMHO. This mower got the Uranus Inc Chop Shop treatment. The boys in R&D came up with the plans. Guys on the shop floor made it happen.

I'll give up my gas mower when they pry my cold dead fingers from it:)
