Everything in lawn care items has gone battery

Another tool for the battery lovers.

I can't be a total jerk, and say it's useless. I can see where it could come in real handy in limited applications.

But, on the flip side..........................

Number one...............it's an inverter welder. They tend to let out their magic blue smoke faster than the old transformer welders. And, they're virtually non repairable without spending as much as buying a new one.

Second.............. I'd venture to say that the battery life is aspirational. Fresh batteries, fully charged, on the day of the Vernal Equinox.........yeah, they probably live up to the hype on THAT day.

Thirdly................. Eco friendly it ain't,... like all other battery powered stuff. Ever see how Lithium is produced? On top of which.......just where does the electric power come from? A good portion is from fossil fuels........a fact that will probably continue into the foreseeable future.

Know what makes me smile? All the guys on here talking up their battery powered stuff but start a thread on wind and solar and oh boy does that get people going. Where do you think all the battery charging power is supposed to come from?
Just about 25% of the good ole' USofAs total electric production was renewable/green last year and that number will continue to raise. I was surprised when I learned that.

And we made more power then we ever have.

That's pretty sweet! I already have an on board welder in the Jeep but this would be a good carry along on the trail if someone didn't what to do that.

Every tool as far as weed wackers ,chain saws , hedge clippers ,has gone to a lithium battery. Not one thing is 110 volt or gas power . So I bought a Skil hedge clipper and it goes through the branches like they are not even there .Super sharp
Clever marketing to the masses. They are cheaper to make but they charge more because it’s Green. Plus they can count on future battery purchases because they are all brand specific.

As is everything, worst offender is the prepared prepackaged food industry (y)

My battery powered stuff works as marketed, it works great.
I didn’t say anything about how they work. I have a few and I like them. Although I am not looking forward to the $150 when one of my batteries craps out.

You can buy a new battery every ten years or a new gas powered weed whacker every year when you can't start it anymore and they'll charge you every dollar that a new one costs just to get it to start one more time.

My gas DR weed trimmer is over 25 years old my Stihl and Echo saws are 12 and 15 years old respectively. My gas zero turn is also over 25 years old. They all work great with very little down time. I try and take good care of my stuff.

I may try and start my saws that haven't been used for almost 4 yrs this weekend... but as I was typing that I realized I will need to go get some oil and mix some gas, that experiment probably isn't worth the effort. We will be working on about 300ft of invasive trees on our creek bank. We have plenty-o-batteries to go non-stop all day.

Have you ever tried starting a car that’s been sitting for 4 years? A certain pre start procedure is normally needed.

I am good, no schooling required on that front (y)

Still wasted time when my Ryobi will be ready to go as soon as it comes out of the case, just plug in the battery.

Plus zero hearing protection, the quit is golden 🤟

The circle goes around. Dad built an electric lawnmower for the first house they bought in1948. Yes it had a cord but the motor from a washing machine worked on that deck. He did say if the blade ever came off the blade would have been in the neighbors yard 😀

I understand but you have to see the other side too. I’m retired with a decent income and I try to spend money wisely. I’m not going to go out and buy the latest gadgets just to be green or cool. Especially when my stuff is working fine. Maybe I’ll get some when mine are wore out or when I’m wore out, which ever comes first. Buy what you like, be happy, life is short.

Neither did I. I used to be an electric everything hater just a few yrs ago (y)

Speaking of cool and green, these get some assembly and sent to the project from here.

When the EVs become king of the hill on the battlefield and in the skies, it might be time to retire the last IC engine. I have real difficulty envisioning a Ray-O-Vac launch vehicle getting to Mars and back, however.

Check out Spinlaunch. They use a giant vacuum sealed centrifuge that spins at about 5,000 rpm to launch suborbital rockets into space. Then the fuel powered rockets turn on to put them in orbit. The centrifuge is powered by electric motors. They have had 10 successful launches and plan to build a bigger one that will launch the rockets carrying satellites into orbit.
