Farmall 300 clutch trouble

Yeah I know better but I was in the shop and I had some bolts giving me some time of it and I felt like having just a just a little poke just a little poke. I do have to admit that there's been a time or to when I he may have gotten under my skin a bit, but just a tiny bit.
You read about the difference in clutches? It’s more in reply to your reply #40.

This is what I have used for years to put in clutches. It works on all models and types of clutches-cars, trucks, tractors, etc.

Thanks 300guy...
I think i figured it out...one of the fingers is bent higher than the others, And the way it happened was Putting it together without Installing on flywheel..first...when you just Hang them on the Pto drive shaft The fingers aren't compressed So they're so wild That they're almost As of the outside of the throwout bearing So when you slide the tractor together all it takes is a little wiggle to one side and one of those fingers will go to the outside of the throw out bearing.. Maybe if I would have tightened up pressure plate To flywheel Before I Totally tightened Bolts For bringing the tractor together It would have compressed the fingers And they wouldn't got to the outside of the throwout bearing one of them did... I split the tractor and removed the pressure plate and put it on the bench an adjusted the fingers to specs jim gave us...installed on flywheel and torqued it down it brought fingers down to 1-1/2 on two but 3rd finger was 1-3/4...that finger is bent...kevin the TA man said bolted down to pressure plate (compressed) they should be around 1-1/4 off the pressure plate to the ends of the finger.

I wish i would of put a board on the fingers so you could see it wouldnt even touch the 2 other fingers, they are a 1/4in lower than the BENT FINGER...live an learn...like rustred ssid get a ipto shafts ,or alignment tool...might could of done it without it if i was paying more attention to the details...dewy

Did you see that I think the tool from here, or others will work with 1/32 clearance. The splines are the contact, not the diameter. Noted in the other posts. Jim

Darn it i Didn't proofread my post...should of never usedVoice text....sorry yall.the fingers werent compressed when not installed on flywheel..so they are so high an wide not wild that they are all almost touching the outside diameter of the throwout bearing..all it takes is alittle not paying attention, brought tractor together an tightened down.then crawled under to tighten up pp to flywheel an the finget that was stuck on outside of throwout bearing was at top an i never saw it until i finished tightening..the damage was done by then....new plate time...thanks for all you guys help yall are all so awesome.....dewy

You can edit your post, on a PC the button is evident on the bottom. On a phone click the 3 dots to the right of Report at the bottom left, the Edit option will be shown. That is on an iPhone, would assume an Android would be the same.

Yup I did read that. Could be right on the different brands idk, but from having worked on so many different tractors it never ceases to amaze me what I find on them. As an example, today while freeing up the motor on the W4 (it spins now!) I had to drop the cross bar for the steering. Instead of regular pins, both sides of the cross bar were 5/8 shoulder bolts that were cut down and washers welded to both sides to keep them from coming out. You just never know what someone else has done. Anyway, when yt switched over to the new format I pretty much stopped coming around as I find the page layout difficult to navigate. How do you know the response number? And is there an option to have a different view like the classic that I'm used to?

About the clutch differences maybe you didn’t know this but the original clutch type was designated on the SN plate. For many models a J was stamped as the Rockford clutch designation. On changing the view in your profile on top the green circle with the 1 click that and go in your preferences. Then check the top two items. Threaded View and View Quoting. I hate to tell you this but there is also a setting there “Always Filter by First Message” in my opinion only a dingbat would turn that on” It does make it like Classic used to be. I believe it stacks the newest post at the top. That is a ridiculous way to view something. If you write a letter and slide it to your wife to add something does she erase what you wrote and put what she is adding at the top, NOPE!! Also when you turn that on if someone adds something to a thread it does not reset the post at the top of the list. I used Classic because I liked how links posted there, it shows who replied to who and a long post did not go into multiple pages. I probably missed some stuff because it did not update a thread when replies were added. Oh, the Threaded View gives you who is replying to who, not by wording but uses indentation to show it. It can be a bit confusing because the latest reply is not always at the bottom. If you haven’t changed your profile settings you are probably getting emails on posts. If you don’t want that you can uncheck that option in Preferences as well. And the post numbers have always shown for me on my phone, upper right of each reply.

One more last real concern is the actual offset of the depth of the flywheel friction surface to PP mounting surface. I know you said you didn't have it machined, but someone else might have done that and it could be wrong. I do not know the depth of the step but it can be found. checking it to .050 + or- is easy. If too deep, it will make your clutch pressure less, and it will slip earlier. Jim

It's very easy. Find the one bushing that fits the pilot bearing, screw it on the shaft and then with the clutch and pressure plate hanging on the flywheel, insert the shaft and the bushing into the pilot bearing. Center the clutch using the tapered slider by pushing it into the clutch splines and tighten up the bolts. You have to do just a little eye balling so the shaft stays perpendicular to the clutch.
