Farmall H what parts to save before scrapping it

As title says, i have a farmall h that will end in the scrap yard soon it's need engine work and tires which would cost way more than it's running value. What parts I should keep for sale on ebay or forums ? they should have a reasonable dimension for shipping. I was thinking carb, distributor, generator, the cylinder head ( gasoline type)

Before I every scrap one single part from a tractor I set it in the fence row so if nothing else it becomes part of the fence. Then if/when some one needs a part it is there

It looks like a nice tractor, why don't you man up and save it as time and funds allow, or find someone who will take it off your hands and give it some love?

It seems strange that you would come to an antique tractor appreciation site and ask for advice as to how to SLAUGHTER a classic piece of American iron!

old, not everyone lives in the middle of a junk yard, ah… I mean storage area for gently used equipment. Sounds like you better dial him up in a PM and arrange to go grab it. Bring you piggy bank to pay up the scrap price. If “nc” is Notth Carolina that will be a drive for you.
OP more.. I would put it up on the Classified a couple months and see what goes. Then if still there keep the items you mentioned. How is the steering? Maybe save the shaft and gear. A radiator that holds coolant is probably worth something, but hard to ship. Maybe sell local, maybe the same for the gas tank if it is fairly rust free. How about the loader? It looks like a live drive pump of the front of the crank, if that works good I bet someone would have interest in that.

wo, He has been here 11 years longer than you unless your user name has been rebooted. But he only made a couple of posts when he first signed up about a JD 45 combine.

Ok just to clarify, i don't live on a farm, don't have the space to keep it or a use for it. That tractor was a neighboor tractor at my camp in the north of the province of Quebec and it was last used to grade gravel roads probably 10 years ago, sat unsused engine locked up, the neighbor got the engine to turn but the engine has no compression on one cylinder he decided to get rid of it. As i was the only one he knew with a trailer big enough to carry it i got to bring it back in town. I did list the whole tractor for sale on marketplace few weeks ago but got no interested buyers and now need to get rid of it in the next weeks as i will need the trailer it's sitting on. I understand it might be a good restoration project but i just don't have the time to do it and don't want to spend money i will never get back. The idea of asking what parts i should keep was to know what parts might be usefull to other farmall h owners to keep their tractor running.

In addition to what u mentioned the front bolster / pedestal. Rear hitch drawbar if it’s not all welded up. Any decent sheetmetal
I understand we can’t save all of them!!

Any qualified mechanic will have that engine running like a song. Don’t scrap ! Sell complete! Unload it and park it. Plus the right money talks.

I'd pull the loader off from it. That to me is a non selling point. Sort of like a blade on the front of a pickup people think the front end is all shot from the blade and the abuse they get with them on.

Dunno what scrap price is but I would try to sell it whole for 25-50% over that . I've had good luck advertising as " yard art" ...if nothing else it makes the tractor guys mad and they will come "save" it ....🤣. Selling and shipping parts is time consuming.

Folks just assume you're in the middle of a densely populated community of country bumpkins that are just frothing at the mouth for a new piece of junk to park in their yard.

Probably would have been best to lead with "North Quebec." Then follow up with where it is now. If you're still out in some remote part of the North your market is limited. You'd have to give it away to get rid of it, just like your neighbor. It would cost more to truck it very far than it's worth. Nobody is going to want to drive several hours out into the middle of nowhere to pick it up.

There are hundreds of thousands of H's sitting around derelict in much more populated places. Heck I know of two within 5 miles of my house if I wanted one.

If your plan is to sell on ebay, go on ebay and search for farmall H. Won't take going through a couple of pages to see what's out there for sale. All you need to do is list the same thing for 1/2 the price and it'll sell.

I'm not sure I'd bother though. My understanding of shipping in Canada is it's EXPENSIVE. Shipping will eat up any "profit."

OP already tried that. No takers.

Being out in the middle of nowhere Quebec, or most anywhere in Canada for that matter, selling a derelict tractor for money is a tall order. Scrap isn't worth much unless you're near a port city. That's why you see old equipment just sitting around. Costs more to haul it than it's worth.

Off to scrap with it! Can't save them all. It's unfortunate, but there is a "million" of them out there 😜 . Carb, manifold, distributor, starter .... about all I would keep, just because I can use them. Shipping out of Canada will kill any deal 😭
