fifth gear jump

farmall 300 jumps out of fifth but not so bad you cant hold it in. Doesn't matter whether pulling or coasting. Did the gearshift build up and kit. it doesn't feel like it is going clear into gear. Time to pull the top?
 
the 4th 5th slider is worn where the locking splines slide from the output shaft to the input shaft. The splines are on the outside of the input shaft and the inside of the 4th 5th slider. Raking it into 5th all these years wore out the spline contact area, and (possibly) a worn intermediate pilot bearing contributes to the failure. Replacing the gear and shaft is quite involved due to the TA and (IIRC) requires a double split to get the input shaft out. The total movement into 5th is much smaller than all other gears, so it will not feel like it travels as far because it does not. About 1/2 as far in lever travel. Jim
