Fluid Change Super 55

New User
Greetings!
I own a 1955 Super 55 used to brush hog my place.
I want to have all the fluids changed - but Google is not giving me straight answers.
Oil?? Hydraulic?? And Transmission?
My Mitsubishi uses the same fluid in hydraulic and Tranny. The Oliver is new to me this year
Also thinking plugs and wires and points and Coil(?)/Condenser(?)
Girl Mechanic tries to do her own work, but I have a great Diesel Mech if I get in over my head
I'll be shopping NAPA and Atwood's/TSC
Thank you so much for the help!!!!
Anne

Try : I would try to find a used operating manual on eBay fro example . Use only the oils they have listed.
If the transmission has bronze bushings or thrust bearing of bronze ,use only gl1 or 2 gear oil . A gl4 or 5 will with high sulfur for hypoid high
speed differential will damage the bronze bushings .
I get sae 90 gl1 from napa or TSC .
Good luck

I don't know that you can follow the manual to the letter. It'll probably call for an SAE 30 with an additive or some such thing for the hydraulics, but just use a common hydraulic oil instead.

Hopefully a super 55 owner that has more information.
Save the oil you take out in a cheap container ,that way you know how much to add .
Good luck

Greetings Anne, a couple good investments would be your
O-201 Shop Manual and an Operators Manual. The sticker
on mine says you can get them from this site.
Take good care of the Super 55 and itll do amazing things.
Hopefully this screenshot helps you out.

Thank You!!
A pricey trip to Atwood's (local version of TSC) and NAPA for the filters and we are ready for Mechanicing!!!
Have copies of the manuals on order :)
But I did forget the plugs and such. Will need to go back. NAPA has a HUGE, handy-dandy book to look up parts for tractors of all sorts!!!

Congrats on the new purchase. The owners manual will cover all the regular maintenance and has good pictures. I have a 1973 Oliver 550, but maint. items should be the same.

- Engine oil - Capacity 4 qts, I use 10W-30, filter right side of engine.

- Transmission - The 3 drain plugs under the tractor drain the transmission. They all drain the same fluid from the 3 shared sections - transmission, differential, final drive.
Capacity 5 gals. 80W-90 gear oil. (Manual states 10W-30 oil, but I've always used gear oil). Filler cap is the slotted cap between your knees, just in front of the hyd. filter that
faces front. Check plug is square pipe plug on the rear, just to the right of the pto. Fluid should be at the bottom of level of the plug hole. The manual suggests flushing the
transmission, it states pour 4 gals. of kerosene into the transmission and operate the tractor in all speeds without load for 5 minutes before draining and flushing solvent. I have done
this in the past and did get some crud out.

- Hydraulic - The fluid is contained in a separate section above the transmission, there is a steel pan separating the two. Small dipstick under seat right side is the hydraulic fluid to
run the three point lift. That dipstick hole under the seat, right side, is the check AND fill hole. Capacity approx. 9 qts. I use universal trans-hydraulic oil .
To drain (depending on any aftermarket equipment - (mine has aftermarket valve and rear hyd. hookups). Lower 3 point all the way. Remove the 1/4 pipe plug from the hyd. passage cover -
right side of hyd. cover, just behind hyd. filter - install a piece of 1/4 pipe nipple, start the engine, let it idle as it pumps the hyd. fluid out. Have a 3 gallon container to catch
it all. Fill through dipstick hole. Replace hyd. filter in front of seat between your knees. The cast cover about the size of a pop can unscrews and the filter element is inside. Only
available from AGCO dealer, part# 100-476-ASA.

Good Luck,
SW3
